surfacing of CS with Stellite

Hi every BodyI want to hard facing of check valve with stellite 6. i heard that one layer of inconel 625 shall be deposited at first.if this subject is right what is the function of this layer and do you have any reference?Thanks!
Reply:From what I read, it is relatively common to use a soft base layer under hardfacing, especially to rebuild worn away material. Hardfacing is relatively brittle (depending on type), and a soft base layer reduces the risk of cracking.At other times a "basecoat" may be used simply because the hardfacing does not work well straight on the base metal. You add a layer that welds well onto the base material, and in turn, the hardfacing welds well onto that.I have no idea if that's the purpouse of a layer inconel 625, or what properties that has, but if it's supposed to be there I'm guessing the reasoning is something along those lines.
