I've got a line on a set of keyway broaches I have wanted for a while. The biggest cutter would be 1/4". I have used these before quite a while ago and used what was probably a 10 ton ratchet arbor press which was plenty of push to cut the keyway. I don't have an arbor press and don't have room or the money for a big one. I'm thinking about one of the smaller benchtop models. Question is, what would I need? Some broaches have pounds listed which I'm guessing is the pressure it takes to push the cutter through. I would think this could vary with different steel, hot rolled, cold rolled, stainless etc. Besides the numbers seem low like "397lbs". Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I know, go as big as I can, but would one or two ton be enough? Thanks RON |
