I picked this bender up at an auction with a bunch of other stuff and now Im trying to bend some 3/4 hydraulic tubing for another project and I was wondering if anyone could Identify who makes it so I can get some dies

Reply:thank you for the information I think one of those will work.
Reply:Looks homemade.  I say this because the degree ring isn't usable, it is in the wrong position.  It is unecessary on that bender.Ready made dies dies might fit if pins are correct diameter.
Reply:I was trying to make some dies last night on my little lathe but it was chattering so bad I couldnt cut the chamfer in it. Is there some trick to cutting a chamfer so it doesnt chatter? I was only taking 5 thousandths at a time. its also an old sloppy 12 x 40 machine
Reply:Going back a bit here but here's some suggestions:Tool on centre height?Cutting Fluid? If you've got the compound slide set to the chamfer angle, have you wound the backlash out of the compound slide screw? Wind it back until it it can be wound forward past the "slop" of backlash before beginning to cut.Cutting speed correct for both material being machined and the cutting tool? HSS or carbide?Good keen edge on cutting tool.Cutting tool clamped firmly?Does the slide need tightening on the compound slideways? You should be able to machine chamfers just as well as you face or turn things parallel. If all else fails and the chamfer is not to big, use a file (with a handle on it of course) "One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for." Reply:Here is a thread showing some tools for cutting dies on a lathe.  It took me a long time on my 9x20 lathe.  http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ht=ring+roller Follow Tractapac suggestions.  Also, grasp everything and shake.Make sure there in no noticeable play between slides and ways. Are you tapering in the middle of your stock or near then end?  If you are near the end then you can just do step and then do a continuous taper when you are close.  You can do the same at the middle of a part also, it is just difficult to plunge cut, at least on my small lathe.
Reply:Tightening the gib screws on the compound ways will reduce chattering, but chattering is usually a tool geometry problem.  Check your rake and relief.  Does changing the tool height from center help?  Maybe a cutting lube?
