The guy says he will not demo the welder for me, take it or leave it. A low hours syncrowave 250 for $600http://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/tls/4796401782.htmlseems like it may be worth a shot. Any thoughts?Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:What size 230v breaker do you have?!That machine will blow a 50 amp after 10 seconds at 200amps AC tig. It's a 10lb cell phone.Your better off with your AHP. IMO.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024
Reply:No demo? Tell him to kick rocks.
Reply:My breaker is currently a 50 amp. But my little brother is an E-1 electrician, so I can make it pretty much whatever I want. I was thinking of this in addition to my AHP.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:unless of course you want another welder, just because
Reply:The only thing that makes me nervous is no foot pedal. How much would that set me back? Torches and leads I have or can get.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:jump all over it man, you can always upgrade on the breaker later,  Try ebay for a foot pedal or maybe ssc?
Reply:Did I mention my wife is fascinated by TIG welding? Besides she tolerates and even encourages my bloated collection of guns, fishing poles and tools. Why not welders?Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:who cares how many hours are on that synchrowavethose things are reliable for decades. the only thing you replace is pedals and torches. id get offer 500
Reply:Yeah i was thinking of offering 800 for both. Cash on the barrel head...see what he says.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:Can you take a generator with you to see if it at least powers up? I purchased my welder without testing... How lucky do you feel?

Reply:The down side of going component is the same as piece building a 1966 Mustang, everything is available, but the costs add up.
Reply:So I struck a deal with the guy, both units for $900, but I have to pick them up tomorrow which I cannot do. And he has two other guys coming to look at them tomorrow. I will probably miss out on this deal. Maybe it is a sign.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:I think the ad says he has two.  Two at $600, buy both!Worst case, use one for parts and you have a syncrowave for $1200.Best case, sell one for $1200 (still really cheap) and end up with a free one.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX

Reply:Bought an old Syncro 250 for $850 awhile back.  Couldn't test it.  Worked fine. Then the guy had a Wells-Index mill I bought for $950.  I told the guy that if he had anything else for sale at a good price, don't call me.  I can't afford it.    On the pickup run, my son welded a bracket onto a motorcycle frame for him using the guy's old Linde MIG welder."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welderGood God man! Reply:You realize all the other machines are ladder rungs on your way to a Dynasty. Ordering a Dynasty on line will take nothing from your concentration. Then you can flinch a week or so, pay off the credit card, and never look back. You'll lose all interest in Craigslist. You'll be the accountant you always wanted to be, cause you are at peace with yourself, you'll be confident you have the best welder in the world. No worries about "could I have done better?  I suggest 280 DX, if you won't do aluminum, 200 is fine.
Reply:wtf, you have to ask? For that price I would have been at the guys house within minutes with cash in hand all excited like a high school kid on prom night!I just brought home a 250dx a few weeks ago for $1500 and felt I got a decent deal compared to what I see them normally go for around here.  On a 60amp breaker and ran it over 220 on aluminum with no problems.12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829

Reply:Bill, you are funny. VPT, yeah, I had to ask. the guy refuses to demo them.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:Not sure how worried I would be about trying them out at that price. I would still probably take both and hope one works. lolIt is kinda odd that all the dials are turned to the right though?12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829
Reply:He says this "They both worked perfectly fine. The accessories (pedals, torches, leads) from both machines got stolen in the facility where they were stored. That's why I can't demo them."If he still has them Saturday, I will take a ride up Zap's way (this guy is just down the road from there), and have look. I will take the risk for $900 and take both.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:Louie isn't your throat getting scratchy?......by noon you will feel better, maybe 1pm.....you need time to get them unloaded.DynaSteve you talkin about a cooked inverter some schmuck unloaded on you

Reply:I got burned a few years ago buying my Sync 250.I never welded a tack in my life before going to pick up the machine. The guy told me I couldn't test it because he didn't have 220v in his warehouse and the machine was missing an argon bottle. Said he'd give me a 2 week warranty to test it and call him back. Bought it for $1,700 (2011 pricing) even though I couldn't test it, because I heard how these machines are pretty much bulletproof. Long story short the main board (PC1) ended up being damaged but it took me about 15 days to get an auth. miller tech out to determine it for me. Called the guy back on the 15th day and pretty much told me to get lost. $450 later I had my sync 250 running beautifully and i've never looked back. I have mine hooked up to a dedicated 100amp breaker and the thing is a beast. Doing projects for people it has paid for itself probably 2x-3x over by now. Love the thing just don't like how it balls pure tungsten and how it causes little nodes to shoot off my thoriated tungsten on AC. Need to find a tungsten that will just stay pointed on 150amp+ AC welding. Anyway I digress..... You better go buy those things before you regret it and never find a deal like that again!

Reply:I have done stupider things with my money before. I am going to get them in the morning. 2 for $900. The guy who was going to look at them today supposedly stood him up so they are mine. Even if I part one out to get the other working, a syncrowave for $900 is not a bad dealMiller Multimatic 255

Reply:OK, so what is the checklist I need to go through before plugging these in? I am thinking of pulling the cover off, inspecting the interior, clean out any mouse nests, check all the connections, maybe lubricate the polarity switch. Anything else? I am downloading owners manuals now.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:Sweet man! Congratulations, as for a check list. Just wire them in and see if they power up. If they power up try to weld with them.  Then do all the adjustments and cleaning.Last edited by That Guy There; 12-13-2014 at 05:37 PM.

Reply:Originally Posted by Louie1961So here's the update. Two syncrowaves, sitting in my basement on dolliesThey actually fit side by side in my Chevy. The guy loaded them for me with a forklift. Nice guy, runs a custom chopper shop in the Boston area. Don't know if they run yet or not. I will try to wire them up tomorrow. Supposedly they ran a welding school that failed. He had three of them sitting on a tire rack in the garage, 10 feet up in the air. They were previously hardwired so I need to get or make a couple of whips that will plug into the nema 5/50 outlet I have. I also have to scrounge up some leads.
