Can I cut steel with a diamond wheel, will it reduce the life of the wheel?
Reply:Diamond wheels usually have a plated surface of softer nickel into which the diamond 'chips' are pressed. They are good for cutting hard materials like rock, ceramic and very hard metals (eg hardened teeth of saw chain) but softer, tough materials like copper or mild steel tend to pull the diamond out of the wheel.

Reply:I've used an old diamond wheel on the 4 1/2" grinder to cut expanded metal, and thought it worked ok. Regular cutting disks are probably faster.
Reply:Diamond wheels are used for sharpening cutting tools. Tool grinding. Lot of coolant, high speeds. End mills, profile cutters, etc.I'm not sure their suitable for rough cuts. Somebody ought to know about that."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:diamond wheels are for grinding exotic hardened steels or cutting ceramicAny zip cut or regular abrasive wheel for chop saw will cut even hardened steel |
