well i got bit by the cheap tool bug.  you know those flyers that come out and advertise tools at "warehouse" prices.  well i went and saw an 8" vari-speed grinder.  it was 5 dollars.  i couldn't believe it.  it was the last one and i snatched it up.  talk about an investment.  i took it home and went to plug it in and notice the plug was backwards on my cord.  the fat blade was on the wrong side.  i called the number on the warranty card and they told me the problem was my house receptacle was outdated and i needed to have it upgraded to mate with my new grinder.  no problem, i went to home depot and looked around; i didn't find what i needed.  i went back home and called the warranty department again.  i was put on hold.  they were so nice the last time i am sure they are helping another loyal customer.  after about 20 minutes the line dropped.  it must have been on my end so i gave them a call back.  i talked to several people and then ended up with the manager/supervisor/owner who must be the brother of the first guy that i talked to because they sounded just alike.  he understood what my problem was immediately.  he was extremely knowledgeable and referred me to a grinder recommended electrician who carried the plugs i needed.  well it didn't turn out to good.  apparently the grinder i received turned out to be from a bad batch grinders from the overseas supplier.  they are an exclusive, in-house. outsourced, wholesale, manufacturer that only the owner knows about.  the grinder owner told me that if i would send my grinder back to them then he would replace it free at no charge.  i packaged it up and sent it back to them.  he fixed it and sent it back with a personal letter of apology and he even included his personal phone number so if there were any further problems i could call him directly.  well i unpacked the box and there it was my grinder with a bright yellow plug on the end of it.  it fit perfectly.  i plugged it in and flipped it on.  nothing.  i checked the breaker and the receptacle.  i also ran out side and checked the meter to see if it was running and it was.  i called the personal number.  the number was out of range.  i then called the warranty department.  they gave a number to call.  it was the personal number.  i called it again and left a message.  he called me from the hospital waiting room.  his neighbor had dropped his grinder on his toe and was having to have his foot amputated off.  he didn't have long to talk but wanted me to know he was there for me.  i called back the next day and he walked me through the repair.  it turned out that one of the wires had come loose during the shipping and i had to solder the wire back to the motor.  i needed a soldering gun anyway so this was an inevitable purchase.  it worked.  i flipped the switch and it hummed.  the wheels didn't turn, but i turned them with my hand and they took off.  this must be a safety feature.  i can imagine what would happen if the wheels went full speed right when it was turned on.  that would be very dangerous.  i turned the adjustable speed dial and it worked good.  i had to be careful cause the dial was loose.  the screw holding it on the the case must have fallen out when i was repairing the motor.  i will post pictures soon.  i have it all painted and ready to go. it grinds really good.  how hard do you push your metal against the wheel?  if i put any pressure against it really slows the wheel down and i have to pull it off and let the wheel pick speed back up.  is this the way it is supposed to work?  can i grind 3/4 inch stuff on it.  how long will it take to grind 1/2 of 3/4 off of the left side?bummer.  it quit working  the grinder company said they i could send it back to them, but since i had done a repair on it and i wasn't an authorized repairman then i have to pay for the repair.  boy good thing i only invested 5 dollars in the grinder.  with the postage, phone bills, electrician, the soldering gun, and the repair, i would have had way too much tied up on it if i bought one of the big named grinders.update.  i got my grinder back and have used it today.  it does just what i want it to.  see you don't have to have a big name grinder.update. update.  i was changing the wheels on grinder and wanted to put a wire brush on.  the arbor is too small on my grinder.  do you think i could tig it and build it up and then turn it down to fit a standard arbor?  i called the grinder company and they didn't answer.  i called the personal number and he didn't answer.  i am starting to think they don't want to talk to me. dumb company.update. update. update.  well i decided i would just use the wheels  that were on the grinder originally.  i had to sharpen a lawn mower blade.  it took me 4 hours to sharpen.  the wheels keep slowing down when i put pressure on them.  if i plug it in to a 220 outlet will this help??

Reply:Hi,    Just backs up the old adage "If something looks too good to be true etc"  Entertaining reading but that grinder gives tools a bad name and  needs to be in the BIN. A.S.A.P.  Cheers  Gordon.
