i just got my first tig welder and plasma cutter from East Wood. they are 2 hours away but there's a 3 year warranty so i gave it a try. got both for 956$i got some steel but how do i know which filler rod to use?any advice would helpthanks!
Reply:its just some steel plates about 1/8 thick
Reply:1/16" filler is what we usually use with 1/8" at the tech school with steel and stainless. I've also sen guys do the welds with .045 filler or 3/32" filler. It just takes more skill to use the other two. What size filler to use depends on several things. With newer welders, you need a filler large enough that it doesn't just melt off if they don't have perfect torch control. On the other hand filler which is too large either cools the puddle too much, or takes more amps to melt than the base material. Smaller filler also means you have to add more filler, more frequently to get adequate reinforcement. Larger filler means you have to add less filler less frequently, but you may chill the puddle too much and not get the toes to wet in right..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Tungsten size should be 3/32". Just about any tungsten flavor except green ( pure) would work for steel..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
