Was welding a table top with my dad and going through all the different stick electrodes he had. Tested a few and he had some called "beauty rod" The welder at his last job gave it to him and said it's the best rod he has used. I tested out about 4 rods and that one seemed to work the best..however I suck at stick welding so I'm sure a lot had to do with experience. Is there a number associated with this? Or anyone know anything else about it? Or do they still even sell it?Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:Must be slang... 7018? What thickness, settings, and machine were you running?
Reply:Maybe 6013? It's either that or 7018.
Reply:6011- flux won't come off easy but good penetration6013- flux comes off easy and beads look better for home welding7018- low hydrogen rod industy standard with thick brown flux, need DC to run these
Reply:A quick search found a "Black Beauty" welding rod.http://www.farmerschoice.com/black-beauty-90/http://lagrangesupplycompany.com/There are a lot of companies marketing various "specialty" or "miracle" maintenance rods with different names, but no clear AWS designation. I'd need to see what the slag on the weld bead looked like, but a XX 13, XX14, or XX18 type rod comes to mind if it has a medium heavy slag. If the slag is lighter and the bead cools fast then a XX10/11 rod comes to mind. Many of these " miracle" rods come in a variety of special colors, probably dye added to disguise the original flux color and to make them stand out in comparison to "similar" rods.I have some 80XX rod from MG that's supposed to be their "super" maintenance rod with their unique name on it ( it's at the shop and I can't remember the name this evening). The rep gave me the box touting how great it was and how easy it was to use a few years back, but wouldn't give any specifics. I'm guessing it's either an 8018, 8013 or 8014 from what I remember. The stuff was probably formulated as an AC rod so restarts are easy. I'm guessing it's one of these three from the way the slag peels off and the look of the bead from what I can remember ( it's probably been 2-3 years since I used any of the stuff)..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I'll try to get a pic of a bead next time I go visit. There were no other markings on the rod other than it saying "beauty rod"Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Reply:Iv'e heard people refer to Eutectics 680 rod as a beauty rod and they are blue. I haven't had to use those rods in years, it's a high tensile impact resistant rod but man o man if you ever wanna see a rod run smoothe man, give em a shot. And talk about flux curl! One tap at the end of the weld and the flux shatters like broken glass and is gone.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:Forgot to mention to Gamble. If you ever use those 680 rods you will get a boner so big and fast you will probably blow the zipper right off your pants! They run sweeeeet bro! Expensive tho. I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:It's probably a 5/32" 7014 rod. "Hey I didn't come to look and learn, I came to turn and burn.... If I can't light up, I'm gonna light out!"-JodyIdealarc 250 "Fatman"MM 252MM 211 "Little boy" Victor Torches
Reply:Years ago, I got some of that "Beauty Rod" years ago from somewhere/someone(?)It truly does run well.It was touted as an "All Around Maintenance Rod".There was also another grade of it for Stainless or Cast Iron?I can't remember?I may still have some?

Reply:Cross referance it to the 680 on there web site. Eutectic makes some kick a$$ stuff, they are just expensive, and create exploding boners that blow zippers apart! I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:With a little practice you can get nicer welds than that with 7018.If you want really purty welds, try stainless steel rods (309-16 or -17). Useful to have around and still less expensive than the "miracle" rods.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:I'll try some 7018 when I stock back up on supplies. But I really like how this rod welds!Even on the harbor freight 80amp welder it's pretty smooth!Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
