A buddy of mine came over yesterday hoping I could come up with a way to pull wheel hubs on Polaris 4x4 ATV's. There is very limited access and no way to pry them off. He figured I might be able to dream up something no one else has come up with. A couple of beers and an hour later I came up with the design of this crude little unit. Another couple of hours and more beers and using scrap on hand, I came up with this slide hammer operated thing. The screws toward the slide hammer nut tighten into a groove and the rear ones just clamp onto the main body of the hub. Reply:that looks like a lot of drilling and tapping for a 1 time use tool
Reply:Nah...he's gottin' into fixing up Polaris machines and turning them over...( I guess I could have worded that different)! Reply:Why not 1 or 2 big pinch bolts instead of the colony of small ones?Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Customer stated that space is very limited with not much room at all. Also, the groove is fairly shallow and I felt torquing small bolts radially would work best and allow for cramped quarter access.POVERTY...is the Mother of InventionMillermatic 211Millermatic 140Miller Thunderbolt XLArcOne 100STS inverter w/TIGThermal Dynamics 38XL Victor Oxy/AcetyleneJancy Slugger Holemaker IIJet 5x6 BandsawNever enough time & sleep.

Reply:Looks great. It doesn't look like the bolts marked up the surface too much. Does the part get re-used or replaced?

Reply:Weasel piss. GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:That's a good idea.  I do those quite often in my shop.  I've got some tricks but I should make one of those.  Most of the stubborn ones I can drive a pry bar in behind and hit the joint 180 degrees from the bar with a blunt punch on the air chisel and they come out, not all though.  This is almost exclusively a polaris problem as many other machines use "wet" cv sockets so the oil keeps them free.
Reply:Great tool, you should market it!!!!! as a Polaris tech, I can tell you tHat would be awesome to have!
