I'm looking to buy filter to keep the metal dust to a minimum because I have a garage attached to the house and would like to keep the air clean for everyone. With limited budget, what filtration system would you get? I only have about $200 to spend. I've thought about building one out of a squirrel fan and a canister of activated carbon or a box of stacked HEPA filters. Many thanks for saving our health.
Reply:I usually just clean up real good every time I am finished for the day, compressed air, broom and shop vac, while wearing a good respirator. I try to do all my grinding outside but sometimes the weather forces me inside. As for cheap air filtration, how about some box fans with furnace filters tied onto them?Miller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car.
Reply:I always thought that grinding was an outside event or it needs a contained area to be done in. I don't care what a guys skill level is I scratch my head when the bench grinder is next to the lathe.

Reply:Its "possible" that a setup something like this would work. Run flexible ducting to the location you will be working at. Set the speed controller to a proper level and weld away. Id also probably put some sort of particle filter inline so that they don't get pulled through the fan. http://www.amazon.com/VenTech-IF6CF6...ter+inline+fanhttp://www.amazon.com/VenTech-VTSPEE...3QF6XPEW7WT0TRLast edited by AMW; 01-10-2015 at 10:45 AM. |
