Tell what you look at when buying a used set of torches gages and tanks. I like to know what I can do when I look. Anybody got a check off list?
Reply:PRICE.....get a price on what it will cost new.and how much to test the tanks if they are out of date at your lws...then decide on how much repair if any on a used set up, hoses are cheap so if its good gauges and the tanks are in hydro test date and torch looks good but hoses are beat up just change out the hoses...always test to see if gauges hold pressure or in anything is leaking...for the right price and a little time fixing you have to decide whats it worth to you...Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:560Dennis First you need to ask your lws about their cylinder policies and If you're buying off craigslist its possibly going to have out of test dates or the cylinder necks will be stamped and that's where the lws comes in.I would suggest looking for a setup with full cylinders and name brand torches like victor, harris, smith or firepower is good. Import torches are a no no in my book since a set of new imports can be had for cheaper than used in used markets . Hoses with no visible cracks can still leak so if you purchase used plan on getting new hoses. If the seller is offering full cylinders and can demonstrate I say go for it, Prices are going to vary for different sized setups and locations, I can only speak for my area and here a 200cf setup goes for about $300-$400. Yesterday someone on craigslist had a set going for $75 but the cylinders were the only things good as the torches sucked and hoses looked brittle. |
