A member here shipped me some AC/DC 7018, asked if I would run a side bend test to see the results. Far as I know this rod has never seen the inside of an oven. At the very end of the root pass the rod acted really funny, I could see the flux flaking off 3/4 to 1-inch above the puddle. Even with this rod being cold, it ran very nice, maybe the best 7018 I have ever run! Here are the pictures, most likely it will take two posts to get all the pictures up loaded. Reply:More pictures. It's obvious I need a better camera for close up shots. There is a blemish in the cap pass on the left coupon. Looks more like a ding than a rip. There is the same thing on the other coupon, way out of the weld zone. Maybe the coupons hit something when springing through the bender. Reply:Number 3 is my favorite, I think ill avoid wet electrodes tho. But in all seriousness the beads look great. What setting did you run those at?

Reply:Looking Good It's weird, iv'e worked with some no name electodes that welded flawless and some brand name that ran like garbage. Work has been providing me with Hobart electrodes lately, And I have so many open boxes because one box same electrode is fine and another box same electrodes is garbage. Nice flux curl too! Reply:CEP, I don't know what camera you're using, and pardon me if this is too obvious to even mention, but does it have a macro mode? Setting the camera to macro will sometimes allow the camera to focus closer.
Reply:At the local chip board plants, there was a salesman here in the 90's that would pour oil in a deep ground out v and then weld it.He was showing it as "proof" the rod would weld through anything.Dave JDave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:This camera has a touch screen, which doesn't work most of the time. It's all I can do not to touch it with a hammer! But after reading your post, I noticed in the easy auto mode, if I move the camera closer to the object, the little icon in the upper left hand corner changes to flowers. But it has a very small window where the flowers will stay. I guess I need to play with it some. Oh I'm sure you could teach me lots of things, I'm always amazed at what I don't know!Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Hey you taught me something! If I leave the camera in the easy auto mode, and wait until the flowers appear it does take a better close up picture than in portrait mode! Reply:@ CEP - MTA's Master Catalogue available at http://www.maintechllc.com/dnn/Porta...cs/CATALOG.pdf. Your item listed on p.75. Note: pp 64-65 also of interest. Reply:Looks like they are selling direct.Hey~!! It's a hobby. It's not supposed to make sense~!!
Reply:List prices are S78 - 3/32" $9.95, 1/8" $8.45, 5/32" $8.45But they have a new and improved maintenance rod the Addifix 260. It's supposed to have a higher quality metal.3/32" $6.95, 1/8" $6.57, 5/32" $6.44Since my salesman is no longer with the company, I am expecting a call from a new one. Those prices may come down. Those prices are per pound and must be purchased in ten pound increments. I paid close to the above pricing of the S78, for the S78, a long time ago. I don't remember exactly, but I know it was outrageous. But again, I could weld with this rod at the time. And my rep only sold in 50 pound increments. I'll update the prices when I hear from the new rep."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
