Firstly ESAB is not very poplar in my part of the world. No displays of wire or anything Esab. No welders.. nothing. But today, i was out back at one of my LWS who I deal with occasionally (they are technically an Esab dealer, from Coast to Coast ) and there were 2 bright yellow spools of AristoRod 12.50 in .035.So I got to asking about it. Apparently a local company recruited a welder out of ontario and he wont run anything but it, so they bring it in special for him.I asked about the price, $85 / 18Kg. ($4.72/kg) Thats ALOT of money. And that was his "best price". They treat me OK so I believe him.I myself run Air Liquide's wire, at $65 for 20Kg. Ive had people say that even at $3.25/kg its too much tp pay for S6, but I like it, and like dealing with AL. And I like that it is made in CanadaThe LWS with the Esab wire also had some Italian wire from a company Ive never heard of for $45 / 20kg.So what Im wondering is, is the Esab AristoRod worth $20 more than my Al wire for a smaller spool? Is it worth almost 2x the Italian stuff? Ive read a few comments that it is real good, but I also assumed that it was about the cost of the Air Liquide stuff that I supposedly pay "too much" for. If I could get the 18Kg spool for the same price as the Al Id give it a try for my next spool, but I wonder if the premium that the wire is asking is worth it?Last edited by scooby074; 06-07-2013 at 09:08 PM. |
