Hey there folks.I'm interested in what you'll think about these three questions: (1) How to write a good Welder Assistant and Apprentice Curriculum Vitae?(2) How to get a Welding Job Interview?(3) How to get Employed for Welding?A little more about myself. I did some packing work after school. Nothing impressive. Just a lot of donkey work. Still young --- not too young. I stay pretty far from all the major factories. Don't have a problem with transport. Just have to look real far to get something good. Definitely the type of guy that would relocate for work though. Don't have a lot of money though.__Three months on tig, three months on smaw. Know how to walk the cup. Done pipe. Done root runs. Nothing too impressive though, unfortunately. Done a lot of self study. Watched a ton of DIY videos on youtube.__Need to know more about assembly --- especially bending metal. __Love welding. It's good fun. It's good work.Sure wish I knew how to enter the job market in our industry a bit better. Be nice to start landing some big welding jobs at some point. Need to start saving for Welding Inspector Certification. Need my tickets.Want to branch out into electronics at some point though. (Can't weld all the time. Arc eye and poisonous ferrous fumes.) Not sure how to get that done. Guess that begs a fourth and fifth question:(4) How to enter into the Welding Job Market, and land some decent work?(5) How to branch out into the Electronics Industry?Pretty interested to read what some of you'll think about number five. Actually --- interested what you'll think about all the questions.Anyway. Back to work.- BLACK5MITHLast edited by BLACK5MITH; 12-28-2014 at 05:57 AM.

Reply:Your worried about arc flash and fumes? You should never be staring at a welding arc and your safety glasses have built in uv protection for that. I'm a traveling welder and have never met a welder that has damaged eyes from welding. Secondly,  fumes are not near as dangerous as people make them out to be. Grinding on metal is much worse than welding it. You can also use a mask to block all the fumes if you want.

Reply:Also if you wanna be an electrician it isn't a a linear career path to that from a welder.
Reply:Use a welding respirator not a cheap throw away dust mask. You're a long way from being a welding inspector. If you ultimately want to be an electrician, start out in that field. You just have to apply at welding shops. If someone had all the magical answers to your questions, every welder would be employed.

Reply:Do any you'll know anything about qualifying for Welding Inspector Level 1? It's like $3416 (40,000 bucks) in my country. Dang --- that's expensive!!!It's only like two weeks long? What's with that?Someone forget first year degrees going for that much?Kids in Germany don't even have to pay.You can also buy a car for that much money, or pay for ten weddings. But I know it's worth it. I know welding pays good.I'm just stressed out. Wondering what the exam rewrites are like.I never gone for Welding Certification. So I don't know nothing about studying Welding.
Reply:avoid the electronics, nobody fixxes anything anymore, assembly SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Blacksmith,There are no welding inspectors who are not previously certified in the welds they inspect.  (Supposedly anyway)  In the US a welding inspector has to re-test/certify on a regular schedule.  Pick a skill/career, start at the bottom of it and work your way up.  There is no magic solution and school may only get you in the door.  It won't keep you there, regardless of field.  Performance keeps you there and, combined with attitude, allows you to advance.30+ yrs Army Infantry & Field Artillery, 25 yrs agoMiller 350LX Tig Runner TA 210, spool gunLincoln 250/250 IdealArcESAB PCM 500i PlasmaKazoo 30"  vert BSKazoo 9x16 horiz BSClausing 12x24 lathe20T Air Press
