A customer wanted a cooking surface to put on a fire ring.  This is what I came up with.1/2" solid square bar top, 1/4" x 1" braces under it.  I also twisted some handles for it.Not much welding really, and no welding beauty winner, but here it is The layout on my table, inner circle is 34", outer is 38"top:Bottom:Handle pics:Pretty simple deal Dave J.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:I like the handles. How do you get the twist in them like that? I'd love to be able to make stuff using twists and bends.

Reply:Yeah burn through won't be an issue For the handles I used a picket twister for making railings - that's the shortest twist I can make with it.They are bent cold and I went two full turns.Dave J.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:Originally Posted by Broccoli1You can do twists w/o a Picket Twister. Clamp one end of the bar in your vise and then use a big adjustable wrench or Pipe wrench to twist the bar.Simple bends can be done on pieces of Pipe
Reply:Great job on the grill Dave, and your better off having it a group effort to install and move it. Even when you make them light they still hurt your lower back. Standard twists are always boring to me. I know you like to play and experiment Dave, try adding some heat, thought and planning and watch what you can do through some trial and error. Gret job bud! Reply:Depends on the size of the bar- 1/4" in my photo so pretty easy.i have a couple different size Pipe jigs. If you keep wrapping the bar around the pipe you end up with a "spring", then just cut the spring and you'll have rings.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Originally Posted by tackitThat grill top needs a handle and set of steel wheels so it can be pulled to and rolled over the fire pit.   They could transport the fire pit and wood on top to their choice of suitable locations.
Reply:That is a great looking grill!  I have a fire pit made from a 5/8" thick end cap and that would be a perfect grill for it. Thanks for posting.Lincoln 180 MigLincoln 225 TigHypertherm 65My Welding Table BuildVideo describing the Table

Reply:Superarc - looks like that works just fine.  I've also heard of welding a handle on an old 1/2" drive socket.I just happen to have a picket twister since getting a railing job for a Holiday Inn Express and other little jobs needing a twist for looks. They are nice since the twists don't need heat and come out very uniform.
