Customer has a "few" excavators at his yard and one at a time they are bringing me these arm cylinders to re-weld over the ahemmmmm "Factory Welds"....I have repaired cracked ones in the past so they are just taking off the cylinders when they are in maintenance mode and having me give the port weld a once over..Dress them up with a flap wheel before welding and all is good...I get all the fun jobs.......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Thats exactly why every generator shell we rebuild comes through my weld shop. Smart idea doing them while the equipment is down anyway. Nothing pisses me off more than "Uh, hey we didnt see this crack when we were sanding it. Can you fix it?" I have found places that was not even welded from the factory. So much for QC. Nice job. If you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before the bag of luck is empty."-Grandad circa 1990ish
