Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you have/use a plasma cutter on your welding rigs. I'm getting mine setup and I already have a torch setup, but plasma is a lot cheaper. I'm not using a flatbed truck like a lot of guys use, I'm just using a 6x12 enclosed trailer so none of my equipment will be stolen, plus it's a lot cheaper. I've decided that instead of a diesel drive welder, I'm using a high end generator and a multi process machine. Anyways, I just wanted to know how many of you might use plasma cutters on your welding rigs and if it's a good idea. Thanks in advance.

Reply:I mean, I feel like you can use a torch for anything, but the plasma cutter can cut through thick stuff, consumables are cheapish, and usually produces nicer cuts. What are the drawbacks?
Reply:Just need to have enough aux power to run them, as well as air.
Reply:What plasma cutter? If we know that bit of info we can help you determine generator power consumption, air flow requirements and cut capacity. From there you can determine drawbacks/advantages.Jim Colt Originally Posted by MotoMan1500I mean, I feel like you can use a torch for anything, but the plasma cutter can cut through thick stuff, consumables are cheapish, and usually produces nicer cuts.
