Goodafternoon, everyone! Here are a couple videos that I wanted to share..A little while back a buddy of mine, Peter Zila was nice enough to drive out to the farm and brought, among other things, a roll of Lincoln Dual-Shield wire.I'd never run Dual-Shield before, and man is it fun... Kinda like a combination of Mig and Stick welding... I really liked it.Anyway, here's a two-part video on Gas Shielded Flux Core wire, what it is, some tips for running it, and what it's used for. Hope y'all enjoy it Part 1:[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnPOzq9BUoA[/ame]Part 2:[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJ3I2eCLP34[/ame][Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. Reply:I can't say as I didn't watch the videos, but only from the still screen, in the shops I have welded for, you won't last long pushing that weld.  if it has slag you drag.  I know it is a simple motto, but one that many live by.  The QC comes around and watches you weld from time to time to check your settings against the WPS and to double check the weldment to the blueprint.  You won't last if you don't do it like they want.
Reply:You guys did not actually get into spray mode. Volts were a little low, and dual shield spray is very quiet. Great video.
Reply:Loved the video.  What was up with pushing the weld in the flat position? Is that considered correct for this type of wire? Also for he pros,  what would you consider to be the most versatile dual shield wire for a guy like me with an XMT and a suitcase?TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:I have run several dual shield wires, that are dictated by someone higher up than me.  Typically this is the engineer that designed the weldment and whose stamp is on the blueprints.  That said, most of it is ESAB7100 ULTRA.  I have some dualshield at home and it is ESAB 7100 ULTRA.In the circles I walk around, pushing any wire that has flux in it is not acceptable.  It may be acceptable in other parts of the globe, but I haven't heard or seen of it.  I only weld part time now and try to limit how much crawling around, over and under I have to do.  I will let the young more hungry bucks to that.  I don't want to be trying to earn a living the rest of my life based on what my body can do.  I have saved using my brain all these years so I figure it should work just fine having never been used.  I have a lot of living left to do and at the rate I am going physically, I ain't going to make it.  So i am dusting off the brain and seeing what it has to offer.

Reply:Originally Posted by Brand XDepends,, but Esab X wire is really good for running verticals. (keep dry, or it will worm track bad) I posted the Esab Link exactly for the info on pushing those type wires.. Turned off the video right when I saw that info. Figured no reason to learn bad habits.. The Lincoln wire is good, and really Hobart excel arc 71 is really nice running wire too.The Esab comes in 14 pound rolls, along with larger sizes. Nice for a suitcase..

Peter and I am both of the belief that pushing a MIG weld will give you a stronger weld than pulling it... As we know, the reason why you dont "push" a FCAW weld is slag entrapment...But with the slag of Dual-Shield, slag entrapment problems are "rare" to say the least. If you look around on the interweb, you'll find many people who push it.He knows what he's talking about, is fully certified, runs a successful business, etc. It passes a cert test, and things he welds don't come apart. But, to each, his own
Reply:Easyyyyy Scott, I wasnt trying to argue your point, if an employer wants it done a certian way, that IS how you do it... I dont have any beef with you, either...[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009

Reply:If you're going to make a video trying to impress other newbies at least study up on the subject matter, a good example is your use of the term mig when referring to dual shield flux core welding.  Pushing a dual shield wire is unacceptable as stated in some of the above posts, you'd be best forgetting the camera & getting out into the world & actually learning the trade.Last edited by Old Skool; 06-07-2013 at 09:26 AM.REAL TRUCKS DON'T HAVE SPARK PLUGS
Reply:although im a very green green welder a friend works at a local shop and he dual shield welds and he welds some pretty thick stuff, they use this on those high voltage high intensity electrical poles and the very tall sodium lights light often found at major over pass's and such.seen 2 inch material welded seamlessly..
Reply:Thanks Lanse.I enjoy your videos and watch most of them.Gordie -- "I believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."

Reply:I am not really a welder, but I play one on YouTube. Nice video!  First time I ran some "Dual-Shield," I liked it a lot as well; though I was taught to "pull," rather then "push" in the flat position (as demonstrated in your video).GarLast edited by Gar; 06-15-2013 at 03:21 AM.Lincoln Electric, Power MIG 256Hypertherm Powermax 45 Miller Dynasty 280DXSmith O/A torchGenesis of a welding table
