Now that I have a syncrowave 250, any reason to hold on to my Stickmate LX for stick welding?? I am thinking I can let it go. I just do hobby stuff and repairs around the house. 7018, 7014, 6013, and 6011Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:Size is about all I can think of. I kept my old Tbolt after I got my Syncrowave and put it up at the shop. I'll admit I don't think I've used the Tbolt since. It is nice to have a machine that I can take to some ones house if need be, thought I don't need to very often. My Syncrowave would be a nightmare to have to move.Arc on my Syncrowave is nicer than on my Tbolt as well..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Arc was kind of what I was wondering about...sine wave vs square wave. Thanks.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:I know on my Syncro 200 I can change the arc for stick using the dig function, though I haven't played much with that myself. If possible on your 250's, it should be in the manual..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:There is a dig function. it is called "Arc control (dig)"Last edited by Louie1961; 12-16-2014 at 11:27 AM.Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:I don't see any reason to hang on to it unless its sentimental, seeing as how you have two other AC/DC stick capable machines! (I'm assuming the AHP does stick...)
Reply:I would get rid of it and get a little 110 machine for portability. A small maxstar or esab, ect....
Reply:The arc on the SW is not to bad. There is arc force, and the machine will run any rod pretty well.No need to keep the stick mate.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Reply:If it were mine and I had no use for it, I'd find someone who was interested in welding and let them use it to practice with, if you don't know anyone just keep it, it's always nice to have a transformer machine as a backup... I actually prefer a transformer over an inverter for SMAW myself, kinda soothing to hear the old beehive buzzing away behind you! Untill she gets angry... Then they tend to growl at you and let you know who's boss!lolReal welders know how to penetrate!(Equipment)Whatever can be used to beat my opponent into submission!
Reply:Originally Posted by Louie1961Not a great assumption. The specs say it will do SMAW, but I hate welding stick with it. It is mediocre with 7018 and terrible with all the other rods I use. the arc force is not adjustable and it has a very aggressive, digging arc in SMAW mode

Reply:I have 3 kids (My oldest is only 13) and currently 6 welders. Two syncrowaves, a Hobart stickmate, a Lincoln AC-225, a Hobart handler, and an AHP Alpha TIG. I am running out of room in the garage, and need to free up some capital. I think the AHP, the stickmate, and 1 syncrowave will soon be on the auction block. But I am in no hurry.Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:Question, why keep the AC 225 and sell the Hobart? If I was going to keep one of the two machines, I'd opt for the added adjustment of the Hobart and the ability to run both AC and DC compared to the Lincoln. About the only advantage I see to selling the Hobart would be that you'd get more from the sale than you would the AC 225.I can see keeping one of those two as an emergency backup, not that I think you will ever need it..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I sold my old tbolt after it sat in the corner for 15 years after I bought my squarewave 175. Haven't missed it one bit but I use the space it sat in all the time!12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829
Reply:Running 6011's and Excalibur 7018s today. Just padding beads since I have really done much stick welding since last year when I started diving into TIG. I have to say, stick welding with the syncrowave is like a dream compared to the stickmate. Virtually impossible to stick the rod, and at least for me at my low skill level, I make much better looking beads with the bigger welder, for whatever reason. Its a real pleasure to stick weld on the syncrowave. Now I am messing with the dig function a bit. kind of cool!Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:Do some of you leave the tig torch and stinger lead bolted up to the 250 at the same time all the time? Just have both ready to grab any time? Curious because it would seem to be a hassle to have to bolt the lead eyelet to the machine every time you want to change processes.12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829
Reply:I made a tag lead that is bolted to power lug on one end and has a female DINSE on the other end. Both my stick lead and the tig torch have male DINSE connectors, so swapping out one for another is easy.Miller Multimatic 255I love the SW for running stick, most stick projects at my work are done with the SW or a bobcat, but I much prefer the SW!!Miller Spoolmate 200 w/t S-52 WirefeederMM 211'09 Miller Trailblazer 302
Reply:I had a Syncrowave 250 Tig Runner package. Bought new in 1996. Machine ran like a DREAM!! It had wheels but I def wouldn't call it portable by any means. It sat in one corner of my small shop. If it was me I think I would keep the StickMate to use for portable repairs, it would be much easier to move around get a good size extension cord and and some 1/0 lead that way you can use it on both machines. Just my opinion.
Reply:I don't do enough repairs to justify keeping both. If this stupid weather ever relents I have a few people interested in buying the stickmate.Miller Multimatic 255 |
