I am looking for information on welding 6g with GMAW open root on pipe or tubing. Up or downhill progression. Is this taught anywhere and where is it used? How often do they use this wps?Thank you
Reply:Downhill MIG root is used in pipe fabrication shops. We do it all the time where I work. I only use it on rollouts, TIG root the flip flops.DualShield fluxcore fill and cap.
Reply:I have a 6g-r mig cert it is used in shipyards and pipe fab shops. You can go either up or downhill on the root it all depends on fit up, voltage, and wire speed.
Reply:I'm not a fan of solid wire at all. Except flux core.. I'll run that all day.Never really liked the idea of open root pipe with mig when you can stick or tig it. Must be my bias and inexperience. =(Check out some of Jody's videos on youtube... I think I recall seeing something similar on this. Welding tips and tricks. Or something like that |
