Nothing more fun than hearing BIG ENGINES WIDE OPEN.Except playing with loud fireI'm getting ready to shoot some primer on a project (the sheet metal rack thingie), and I need to attach the treated lumber sleepers to the angle iron.  But first, the angle has to be straightened.  It sorta resembles a banana.I just picked up another heating tip (part of the Jackson hood deal of the century), and I thought it might be fun to compare the new tip to the older one.The first tip I used is the NEW ONE.  A Flametech HD-2 tip.  It's designed for any commercial gas EXCEPT ACETYLENE.These are the settings.AND AWAY WE GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!More to follow"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Next I switched over to the older tip I've had for quite some time. It's a Flametech PNG-10 tip.  It's designed for PROPANE & NATUAL GAS ONLY, NO ACETYLENEThe settingsMore to followLast edited by farmersamm; 10-10-2013 at 01:35 PM.Reason: forgot the pics"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:For the money, the HD-2 is a pretty good tip, but it's not as hot (which relates to fast!) as the PNG-10.But the PNG uses a buttload more oxygen although the pressure runs lower. The HD-2 is cheaper to run, and cheaper to buy.  It depends on your heating needs.  I thought, for the price, I'd try out the HD-2.  I wouldn't throw either tip out with the trash thoughSome cautions to observe when using these things.  THEY'RE DANGEROUSLY HOT!  You can burn yourself, and just about anything around, if you're not careful.  The radiant heat that blasts back at you is very dangerous, and you must make sure that all flamables in the area are either removed, or doused with a lot of water.  You can start a grass fire just from the radiant heat.  ALSO WATCH FOR SPARKS.  The metal, when it approaches the plastic state, sometimes will throw off sparks as the mill scale burns............it can blow around, or drop, and start a fire.HEARING PROTECTION........................................  ..WEAR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  THESE ARE EXTREMELY LOUD."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I would imagine I'll probably spring for the PNG-20 next, just to have a little extra capacity"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

You cannot describe the sensation of standing on the edge of the road when one of these goes by, black stacks blowing hard, the turbos whining, and racks of discs or chisels stirring the dirt behind. Yes, it would shake the ground. The video was impressive, but these machines were designed to pull hard 24/7. Very well built. The welds were 100% perfect to handle this kind of stress.
Reply:Hi Samm, it's an interesting and informative post as always. Reply:Baby tips use Harris tips up to a 5H we run 2on the preheat of our tiny twin tractors. Natural gas at 30 lbs and 60 OX. We use 3H most of the time , the narrow tip puts more heat in the work zone. Try and heat camber some 44 x455 beams 90 ft with 4" camber.
