I needed to load a Hobart suitcase feeder with small wire.After about Alfred's third attempt to buy the correct rolls, I said: "Alfred, bring the closest fit in a readily available Lincoln or Miller roll, and meet me at the big(ger) lathe."Attachment 34202Soon to be feed-roll adapter, chucked up. No sense starting from scratch, this looked half built:Attachment 34203The cut:Attachment 34204That's a common Lincoln feed roll, which will slide over the adapter, allowing the Hobart feeder to use Lincoln drive rolls.Time for a test fit and to try to figure out a drive lug system: Attachment 34205Turns out that the friction of the hold-down washer has plenty of holding power; at least for small wire.Speak now or forever hold your peace. Nobody?Hence the two shall be one!Alfred, put down that shotgun and bust out the rice. Beautiful welded bliss, no more wandering and hunting for unavailable, overpriced rolls. Reply:Let me get this straight. You couldn't get a hobart drive roll. So you took half a lovejoy coupling and turned it down to accept a Lincoln drive roll, to all work on your Hobart feeder? COOL Who's Alfred and do he and the lovejoy rubber some how figure into this marriage?

Reply:Is that a Hobart Hefty CC/CV feeder? If so the rolls should be avalible through Thermal-Arc. I know the rolls for Hobart's 2210 & 2410 series of feeders are still avalible through them.Ahhhhh The days gone by. The first welding job I held, All the welding machines were Hobart & were electric motor driven generators. Boy were those smooth running stick machines.I still own a 300A MIG version of one. You'd be hard pressed to find a modern machine that welds as smooth as that old beast will. I keep it in moth balls most of the time.
