I am finally in a position to buy a new Tig welder, as I sold my 600 Volt Lincoln 175 SQ Wave today. Now, what to get? I know this gets asked twice a week, but I am having mental strain making a decision. One thing I can't buy is a Thermal Arc product, as they are not CSA approved and therefore, no support or warranty up here.Too bad. I am a rookie and looking for a great all around machine for general light fabrication. I am thoroughly enjoying trying to figure out working with aluminum. I have had very mixed results in the local school using a PT225. When reading about Inverters and Aluminum It seems everyone who has one raves about it's superiority over the older tech PT225.. I could buy a used Dynasty SD for about the same price as a PT225. I could possibly Import a US EBay priced new DX for quite a few more $$, or just go to my LWS and buy the PT225 the guy behind the counter says is the best suited machine for the money. In  general average use (especially considering my Noob ranking)  what does the  SD lack that the DX has ?Which would you get? This is an investment for me in a long term potential hobby, so I want to spend wisely. Thanks in advance for any opinion that comes my way.Bob. Here is a photo of recent lines on 1/4" AL with a PT225. Attached ImagesLast edited by Nicad; 06-16-2009 at 05:04 PM.Bob.Miller Dynasty 200 DXMillermatic 211Hypertherm PM 600In Tool acquisition Mode
Reply:DX has pulse SD does not.maxstar is DC onlyDynasty has AC and DC (need AC for aluminum, DC for everything apart from Alum.)I have pulse in my inverter, but whatever i do can probably be done without it ( you can always turn pulse off)So if you have it for 10 years then lets say a dynasty 200DX is $1000 more than a lesser machine.Thats $100 a year. Thats 100 bux a year so that you can weld aluminum and have twice the amount of menu's to play with.you decide, and enjoy.G
Reply:I meant to change the title to read aluminum rather than steel and not look like someone so unworthy of this DX machine. Anyway, it seems the online pricing for just the Dynasty 200 DX Box makes potentially viable ($2600). I expect there is a whole wave of cheaper mostly imported machines that work well on the way too, but I would prefer the service that has been mentioned. . I am now wondering if my pedal regulator and torch fropm the Lincoln 175 would have plugged into a Dynasty? I shouldn't have sold it that way if they do. New question. Does a lot of older gear interface easily with the Dynasty ? I wouldi magine there are some deals on used components about now. So maybe my strategy should be to buy a new DX and scrounge the plug  stuff.Last edited by Nicad; 06-17-2009 at 01:01 AM.Bob.Miller Dynasty 200 DXMillermatic 211Hypertherm PM 600In Tool acquisition Mode
Reply:your pedal might not work, but you should be able to get adapters for the torch if you need it.I think lincoln does a machine equivalent of the dynasty, but i dont know much about them.G
