I bought this Jeep Grand Cherokee and decided to build it for wheeling (I was just going to use it for errands in the beginning). All pieces cut with Hypertherm  powermax 30 plaxma cutter, welded with my Hobart 180 mig and pieces were bent on my home built press brake. The steel is 12 ga. and the bottom valance is 1/4" x 4" flat stock. The shackle mounts I bought on line. 6" lift, custom control arms adjustable front track bar, 35" swamper tsl radials on american racing polished aluminum wheels.I painted it with Duplicolor spray on bedliner.Last edited by dave_dj1; 10-27-2013 at 07:35 PM.

Reply:based on the tires and the lift I would hope the plan is to add a winch. I would also hope that the top of the drop down part is thicker than 11 ga.There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger

Reply:Thanks folks. I didn't mean 12 gauge, I meant 8 gauge. Yes it will have a winch eventually. This thing has been plagued with one thing after another. I had to swap in the ford explorer rear axle and that has 4.10 gears and the front has 3.73 gears. It's mostly a $$$$ issue  I am building it on a very tight budget. I had to scrap the fulltime transfer case to one with 2 wd, all new brakes in the front, all new shocks, the lift kit etc. etc. The "frame" on these unibody's isn't very thick so I figure that is actually the weak link when I put a winch on. My plan is to cut a piece of thicker steel and drill it to match the bolt pattern of the winch and mount it from under neath with the winch bolts through it then the bumper then the winch. It will be as strong as the rig! LOLI'm hoping the bumper will be able to take a small hit from time to time on the rocks. I'm in the process of building a transfer case skid out of 1/4" and I am going to build a steering box brace. The next thing I want to build is a gas tank skid, I wanna be able to wheel the snot out of it and not have to worry about the underneath. As with any Jeep, a work in progress
Reply:The photo of the spray on bedliner looks great, but does not show that it is texturized.  Does it just not show up, or is it available in non-textured?  Thanks.
