Reply:Those old nuts and bolts were made of real first time steel, not this recycled crap we have now. I will gladly disassemble a 70 to 90 year old machine before I try a 10 to 20 year old one.I'm working a couple of 1929's right now.Anyways, peruse the redpower tractor website for parts for that Waukesha as it was on the early Farmall F12's.Don't bother trying to contact Waukesha engine as the last guy at the factory that new anything about the old engines retired 15 years ago.

Wether by design or accident I to would much rather work on the old rather than the new. Of course outlasting the competition long ago ment making things that would last for years. Today its measured in weeks or day's.Ok todays progress was limited due to the needs of family, dad can we go out driving today. Friends who needed help with fallen trees and my neighbors who got thier backhoe stuck in the mud. All but 1 rear tire was burried out of site. Allright so I did have fun with the kids and friends and a speciall delight in digging the neighbor out with my own machine. Today was spent assesing the generator end of the works. I did progress along slowly, not wanting to wreck anything that wasnt already in need of replacement. all disasembly was done by hand with no pneumatics or hot wrenchs.first was to remove the main brush cover and see what varmints may have tried to move in.14 SA200's from 1936 to 1973SA250, Classic 300D she hasnt seen yet...Yes she hasESAB Power Cut 16002 LN25 innershield, MigMagnum SG Spool Gun / Control ModuleTig Module K930250/250 round topPower Mig 180C

Reply:looking at the armeture shaft nut I noticed this pin. As there is no lock washer or tab over washer it appeard to be some sort of "lock" to keep the nut from backing off. Carefully I pried it away from the shaft thread. it does go thru to the back side of the nut. Also there is a notch in the nut above the location of the pin. Why?For orietaition of the nut, spacer and exciter armeture14 SA200's from 1936 to 1973SA250, Classic 300D she hasnt seen yet...Yes she hasESAB Power Cut 16002 LN25 innershield, MigMagnum SG Spool Gun / Control ModuleTig Module K930250/250 round topPower Mig 180C

The top two screw into angled tabs. These tabs are held in place behind the top bolts for the Welder bracket and exciter frame. I tried every possible tool and way I could to access and loosen the bolts. No go. I had to strieghten the tabs in order to remove the bolts, not a huge deal as long as they dont crack and break off when I bend them back for reassembly14 SA200's from 1936 to 1973SA250, Classic 300D she hasnt seen yet...Yes she hasESAB Power Cut 16002 LN25 innershield, MigMagnum SG Spool Gun / Control ModuleTig Module K930250/250 round topPower Mig 180C
Reply:Now I have a question. I have removed the 4 bolts that connect the Welder bracket/exciter frame to the generator frame. The Armeture bearing is inside a "pillow block" that the grease cup is threaded into. This "pillow block" is assembled with 4 bolts. You can see 3 of the 4 bolts beyond the exciter coils in the photo. Also the tube from the grease cup is blocking the fourth.I installed the puller that i have used to remove the same frame from the armeture shafts on "newer" sa200's. I applied some pressure and got no movement. I have no desire to break somthing that I cannot replace because I did not ask for help. Do you know what the propper dissasembley method is for this frame removal?ATTACH]349111[/ATTACH] Attached Images14 SA200's from 1936 to 1973SA250, Classic 300D she hasnt seen yet...Yes she hasESAB Power Cut 16002 LN25 innershield, MigMagnum SG Spool Gun / Control ModuleTig Module K930250/250 round topPower Mig 180C

Reply:Wow that is a crusty dog, good luck with the restoration! Wish I could help but I don't know anything about the old SAs. I wouldn't doubt that after sitting so long lots of pentetrating fluid, heat and force might be needed to get the sucker apart. Don't know about the old engine but I'd bet if you can find parts it is repairable, doesn't look like much going on. Wonder if you could run modern pistons/rings in that sucker. Good luck with it and keep us posted.

Reply:Do you think the notch was a swage to lock the pin in place, creating a lock nut?
Reply:jones2780. I thought the same thing, the pin has a small amount of rotational movment but none lateraly. The notch is very straight and clean as if it were machined. No bulgeing as if it were swaged. I recieved some good info from Kaye at Bills Welder Repair on how to propperly disassemble what I will call the, bearing cage, for now and the armeture bearing. I wont have a chance to get back at it until this weekend. I was going to resize it a bit but gave it a try as is and it worked. its deffiinately not pretty and will get some mods before I use it again.I twisted up the bent hook and used a magnet to get the washers out. The grease had them stuck together and to the bearing face. Here is what came out. Bolts, bearing cup, Armeture nut and washers.
