Hey everyone,       It's been a while since i've posted anything on here. I practiced some Aluminum lastnight and thought I'd post my results.     I used my Eastwood TIG 200     Pure Argon 15cfh     2% thoriated 3/32 tung     Aluminum was a piece of flat 1/8"     About 130 amps.     Eastwood TIG 200NAPA 83-315 MIG
Reply:You have the pattern down. Now turn the heat up enough to weld the parent metal to the pattern.   Mac
Reply:Good consistency feeding the filler, but too cold. I've been doing the same thing and have learned it takes a lot more heat to get the puddle going and get penetration.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com
Reply:Hi Emerald Bison,Good work!  As others suggest, you might need a little more heat to get the toe of the weld a little smoother.  Are you using the action of feeding the rod to generate the puddle pattern, or are you using some form of amperage oscillation (either manually rocking your foot pedal or a welding power source pulser)?  I find it more helpful to keep the amperage consistent (though ramping down when needed) and generate the bead pattern by dipping the rod.  There can be a slight back and forth of the torch as well (forward when melting the puddle, back a little bit for rod addition, then repeat).  I try to make sure that the craters from the previous weld puddle are completely covered by the next rod addition.  Just a few possible offerings based on the way I do things - everybody seems to do things a little different!Miller Dynasty 200 DXMiller CP-300 with 30A feederHypertherm Powermax 900Oxy-fuel w/Harris torchesScotchman Glide-in bandsawMonarch 10EE latheEmi-Mec Autoturn latheDeckel FP2NC milling machinePro-Tools 105 Bender
Reply:Hey thanks man! I actually do the step and pause technique I learned from Jody on WEld tips & tricks. The same as the forward and back technique you mentioned.Eastwood TIG 200NAPA 83-315 MIG
Reply:I also do amperage manipulation. I manually pulse the peddle. Since I kinda move slow if I didn't do this my bead width would be all over tie place.Eastwood TIG 200NAPA 83-315 MIG
Reply:Great job.  Looks like you need to dip more frequently to tighten up the pattern.  Looks like a series of tacks instead of a more uniform bead that happens to have ripples in it.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
