I don't know if this has been posted here before, but for those looking for government surplus items to bid on, go to:http://www.govliquidation.com/.It used to be that "live" auctions were held on site at military bases.  Now, EVERYTHING is handled by Government Liquidations.  ALL bidding is done on line.  I have bought some really nice equipment from the web site.  I have also bough some not so good stuff, like a pallet of small air compressors a few months back.  I should have gone to the auction site to preview them.  However, the other day I picked up a lot I was the winning bidder on.  It included a Hotsy model 4410SS Hot Water Pressure Washer, a Hein-Werner 3000 lb hydraulic bumper jack, and a 37 gallonTriple Rinse Eye Pressurized Eye Wash Station (I can't tell you how many nights I've laid awake wanting to own one of these ).  The jack works great, needed a new wheel.  The washer needs a fuse holder (has brand new 50 foot hose and wand), The stainless steel eye wash thing is all but new and would make a good sprayer.  My winning bid on all this was $110.  To set up and account with them you need to fill out the on-line registration form and set up payment details. You don't have to register to browse the site.  You won't believe how much of our tax dollars are being sold.  Everything from welding machines, machine shop equipment, vehicles, ammo cans, and on and on.  Something new is listed daily for the various sites.I do not work for Government Liquidation, nor do I endorse them.  I just wanted to let others on this forum about some potential good deals.
Reply:Being retired mil I too remember those auctions on base. I have bought GSA cars and trucks (only a couple of years old), a backhoe that was like new but had a wiring problem (mice got into the wiring), and a 10'x12' storage building.I have been looking at their site and in the last few weeks they have had a welders (miller & lincoln) and a whole pallet of used plasma cutters (two hypertherms) & welders. Problem for me is that they were located far away from me.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:For that site go to http://www.drms.dla.milOnce at the site click on the PUBLIC SALES    once there you can search by keyword, location by state. If you can go see the items you are interested in that is the best way to  to bid. If you can't go to the location to view the items then try calling the location toi ask questions. Otherwise you might be getting a bunch of junk.good luckCo-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:I see they have some good looking welders up for sale at the DRMS site. But again I always recommend a visual inspection of the equipment before you place a bid.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

Reply:It's haunted me for years that I missed out on all those WWII jeeps packed in cosmoline"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Farmersamm, you just reminded me of something I'd forgotten years ago! In the mid-60's, somebody at school found out about those jeeps and a bunch of us got together an order for a dozen or so----and just then, the 'Nam war stopped the selling of now-needed materials, including the jeeps.I feel your pain (too).
Reply:There were supposed to be sheds full of WWII Indians bikes in crates, in Auckland right up until the eighties. They were always talked about but I never found anyone that had seen or bought one. Reply:Have they quit holding the GSA auctions too?"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Not sure if they stopped selling the GSA cars and trucks. Last time I bought one was 5 years ago. I bought a chevy 2500 crew cab 4x4 that only had 47230 miles on it. I didn't go see I bought it off the net!! Big mistake got up there and it looked like someone had side swiped both sides of the truck and removed alot ot the top part of the engine. That was last time I bought without an inspection.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

Reply:I sort of miss going to auctions.  I have most of what I need, and don't care to spend money bringing stuff home that I don't need.  Have a hard time keepin' my hands in my pocketsLast farm auction I went to, I found out that the auction company also had started financing buyers.  That totally crapped up the auction process.  Used to be, you had to have cash in your pocket, or in the bank, when you raised your hand.  It's caused the bids to run higher because the idiots think "just a few dollar higher payment".  Hell, that put me outta the picture.  I won't spend what I ain't got."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Last time I went to Farm auction was  Empire Farm Days. Anything purchased under $1,000 had a buyer's premium of 10% in addion to that total. Plus!! If you used plastic to pay for it there was also a 3% fee attached as well.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

Reply:Well I can see them wanting to cover the credit card company charge. But!! 10% on top of the cost of the item to the buyer plus at least 10% from the seller.. That would mean they made $200 off a $1,000 item that they in fact do not own.  All they do is just yell at everyone while they sell the item.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

Reply:Is that the stuff they confiscate under RICO or something like that?I've heard that they can confiscate everything you own with as little as an indictment, no proof of guilt in a court of law.  If that's true, it seems a little out of hand.  Indictments are pretty easy to get.I'm not sure of the law.  Does anyone know?"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Quote:The vast majority of items auctioned by PropertyRoom.com derive from law enforcement agencies and other public municipalities. With few exceptions, we physically pick-up the goods and transport them into our facilities. We then inspect the goods and make them ready for auction. Lastly, we tightly control the listing content, auction process and fulfillment of each item.A butterfly without wings, is just an ugly bug
