Are there any places to "try out" a wide range of welding helmets? Are there any conferences where one could go in and "sample" a lot of different helmets for fit, feel, vision etc?

Reply:You can talk to the LWS and see what they have. Some times they have hoods in the back they use when they demo machines. I tried a few when my LWS had an open house a few years ago. I believe both the Miller rep and the Lincoln rep had at least one of their hoods available to try. When I was looking to get a new hood, I asked anyone I could think of to try their hood. That included two of the instructors at the tech school as well as one or two of the night class students. I was also lucky enough to know someone local with a shop and I got the input of him as well as his two sons who weld with him as to their preferences..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
