Reply:HMMMMM!  Looks very similar to one my dad and I bought from Homer Dist. several years back in the neighborhood of $159 brand new.  Same design, appears to be of same material, not sure on this one.  Never heard of Jet.  The one from Homer was import and very cheaply made.  Be cautious.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A

Reply:hmmm. Jet is well known but.... i think i would do some talkin on the price.Ya gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:ya I have been lookin thing is no one seels them around here anymore princes auto ( canada's version of HF) only has the large $1299 saw and TSC no longer has them either. I looked online and a new Jet same size as this one is $309. it sucks there are no stores with this stuff anymore in my area.
Reply:I am looking into king canada now for a dealer hope to hear from them tomorrow cause looks like I might find the same thing new for about $225 what really sucks is in my search I found an industrial 12" with coolant for $600 saw was built in 2005. wish I had the room for that.
Reply:did i see its made in taiwan if it isgrab it the new ones are made in china there not as good
Reply:yup taiwan
Reply:Jet has great import metal working tools!
Reply:As with all of this type of re-badged gear. All are not built equal, they look much the same from a quick glance but some are far better built.I have an old Clarke (I'm in the UK) version if this saw, far better than the new ones. The one picture looks to be of the better builds, just make sure you buy good blades for it.
Reply:I bought a Jet band saw that size last winter on Craigslist for $85.00. Mine is white in color -- don't know the year model.  It was in working condition but tends to cut a bit crooked on "deep" cuts.  I can't quite figure out how to adjust as everything looks to be tracking correctly and have good blade tension.  I was cutting a Ox cylinder in half a week or so ago and not paying attention (walked out of shop) and it bound up and fried the motor.  Replaced motor for $60.00 at HF.  Bolted right up.I think the price is a bit high -- but I will say this -- fried saw on Monday evening and at 8:00 AM Tuesday I was hunting down a motor.  I love the saw and don't know how I got along without it.  So, I now have about $140 in mine!Oh -- don't forget to ask if the vertical cut table is available -- you screw that on to cut when saw is in upright position.  Mine did not come with that piece.  I have the manual in PDF for the saw if needed.  It's 1.5 MB so I can't attach it here.BobLast edited by caldwellcpl; 10-02-2009 at 11:33 AM.

Reply:Nooooo!  Get the Wellsaw, much better buy.  Worth a couple grand used in working condition. My name's not Jim....
Reply:there are a couple wellsaws the same in the area its just so big for my little shop thats the only issue for me really I have to work outside alot now cause all the tools I have acumulated this summeerThat's an older machine.  $150 might be a bit pricey for the age, but the JET is a tough little cookie.I have been looking at HF and NorthernTools 4x6, comparing them to JET 5x7.It may sound silly, the NT was available for $219 delivered, I paid $437 for a new JET 5x7.Why?  I once had a JET 6" jointer and loved it.  Brand loyalty is a good seller. Now the new JET bandsaw...  like nearly everything else new these days, had to be ....  well, I don't want to say "fixed" so let me just say "adjusted".After an hour of assembly it was cutting right up front without blade adjustments.  Aligning the vise to the band was self-explanitory.  The cut drifted off away from the machine about 1/32 in 2".  I found this easy to correct.  But the auto shutoff was pathetic - a piece of bent sheet metal with a rubber cap.  Didn't work well.  I made a new one from 1/16" flat stock, drilled two holes and connected them with a die grinder so it has an adjustment slot. Painted one end with red liquid electrical tape.  Much better. Works perfect!I wrapped the handle with tape and padded the wheels to stop the rattles.   Much quieter.Made a washer from 1/4" plate for the vise lock bolt.  The original was a standard thin washer that bent up the first time it was tightened.  The new washer won't bend. The saw will operate in either horizontal or verticle position.  When verticle it has a little 9" square sheet metal table.  Too flimsy.  I made one from 1/4" aluminum plate.  Nice and stiff! (Stiff is good, we like stiff! )First project:  Needed two 38" lengths of 3/4" half-round steel to repair an antique horse-drawn sleigh.  Half-round steel bars are not in plentiful supply around here.  So I rigged the saw in the vertical position and split 38" of 3/4 round bar lengthwise down the middle.  I made up a jig to hold the round bar by inverting a length of angle and capping it with two rollers that I vee'd in the lathe.  Slotted the far end of the fabricated guide tray and welded in a 2" square piece of .025 steel shim stock vertically to keep the round bar from rolling over and turning into a corkscrew.  I made the cut using  the original factory blade.  Nice cut.    See photos below.   Note the Redneck Automatic Power Feed System.(I still can't weld worth a crap so don't look at the welds. But I haven't given up, I still try!  Besides: this is a use it once then scrap it jig.)View from above:Feeding under the roller:Redneck Automatic Power Feed System (Patent Pending):View of the out-feed side:Using a length of 3/4 tube as a pusher for the last few inches:I'll post up a couple of pics of the finished cut after the camera battery gets a re-charge.-MondoLast edited by Mondo; 10-16-2009 at 06:26 PM.Member, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
