Last September I removed many things from dad's estate....... two of those things were an Oxygen tank and an Acetylene tank........Since then they have been sitting in my garage.... against the scrap bin....... I mostly use the plasma since I rarely do anything over 1/4" anyway.......Last week the thought occurred to me: what if Ava goes into the garage while I'm at work.... and Peg doesn't notice in time..... and what if Ava decides to push over the tanks........ and the top of Acetylene tank get knocked off.......KABOOM....... So.... today I secured them to the wall........ all made with scrap I have had for 3 years.....I am already rusty on my 6010 after a semester of school...... but...... I don't have to worry about those tanks getting pushed over by accident now.....PICS:...... Reply:Good job! The oxy tank is the one you don't want the valve broken off. If it's even half full it'll become a missile!!                              MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:You dont want the valve broken off either of them, but i half to admit, that oxy tank is cute.I forgot how to change this.
Reply:Apparently in East Texas.... these little tanks were all dad could get.... or afford......One Oxygen Tank.... One Acetylene Tank.... One Argon Tank.... all small...........But...... knock the top off the Oxygen tank (2400 PSI).... Argon tank (1600 PSI)... or the Acetylene tank (250 PSI)......... and my Ava is a gonner........Not on my watch......... Ain't gonna happen......Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:Pretty slick design. Nice and over built... just the way we like it.  Have you thought about a cart? Of course I'm one to talk... mine are wall mounted (nothing so fancy) with long hoses. Good job.
Reply:A chain would look better than that tie down in my opinion. Safer for Ava also. Its not the flak that will kill those straps but time and wear and tear that a small chain will overcome.I like your tanks holder, I might have to steel your design for my garage because Im a little clumsy at times.Last edited by Insaneride; 01-26-2013 at 09:29 PM.Reason: I need to chain my carts to the wall
Reply:Cool design.  My welding cart has cut out's like that to secure the tanks.  Mine have small chain top & bottom that's bolted to the center & outside of the frame.  Takes a ratchet & socket to remove, but how often does a guy change tanks?I saw a 5000 psi nitrogen tank take off once when I was in the Air Force.  Bounced around the hanger 3 times before punching a hole in the wall & bouncing down the flightline about 30 ft - most of it's energy was used up in the hanger.  Don't want to see that ever again.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:Mark, You make me laugh. I have actually thought about taking one of my tanks out to Picacho and setting it up just right and taking a 5 pound sledge to the valve. I want to see one take off on a full tank. Perfect place to do it too. The tank holder looks cool. Chains are ok, but straps keep them from bonking around anyways. Use both. lolI have too many tanks. Reply:Looks good!  If you really want to go all out, you could make a cage for them.  Another option would be to take the bracket you've made and turn it into a cart that can be strapped/chained/bolted to the wall when not in use.

Reply:Cool ! Garages/ shop is really hard to child proof.  Just remembering to unplug everything is hard sometimes. Even scrap leaning up against wall could be a issue to a little one. Glad you are playing it safe. yes, i remember the days when my kids were young, you never know what they may get into.     Is that another tank to the left or a piece of pipe?
Reply:Hey BD, that is another tank...... argon.......I have to secure that one too...... But will do it separately......In the meantime I have it in the corner by the garage door and secured by yet another OA rig on a dolly so Ava can't get to it.......Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook......
