Ok here's the setupLooking to purchase stand alone mig unit .The two choices are either the miller millermatic 350 p Or the lincoln 350 mp.This will be used for solid stainless wire mig - with either tri mix or argon I am looking at the models that come without any push pull guns .So please tell me your thoughts.  I have no interest in the multi process advantage that lincoln has over the miller I just want to know which is going to be the best mig pulse welder for stainless 1/8 inch 304 Which my shop does a lot of .Also duty cycle is a medium job shop . Nothing to crazy . Please don't suggest other weldersLike the xmt . Just let me know which you would choose between hereHow important is it to be able to update arc programs on the mig ?Because on the lincoln you can . But for the regular job shop with non code weldingHow necessary is this?I want the best . So let me know.  Thanks all .
Reply:Go with the Miller.  That's a MIG-a-Machine..............
Reply:Buy the one that costs less. It sounds like you're looking at a limited range of use. Once you get the machine dialed on for your use you'll love it. They are both great machines.Lincoln Precision Tig 185Lincoln Power Mig 256Hypertherm PM 45Everlast 140STSmith O/A
Reply:Since you are not doing alum, and the lincoln has pulse on pulse, I would go for that. I wish my Miller 350P had pulse on pulse. It is my belief that Lincoln makes superion mig and arc machines, but thier push/pull torches are not as good as Miller's.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:@ craigmetalman - a BLUE dude through and through.  Own no RED gear. However, been using the Power MIG 350P CC/CV all week at Lincoln Electric in Cleveland.  That's a bad mofo machine!  Ran GMAW short circuit, globular transfer, axial (spray) transfer, and pulsed spray on 10gauge, 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" HRS.  Single pass, multi pass. Flat, fillets, vertical, and overhead.  Burned up a ton of 0.035 ER70S-6 wire shielded with 100% CO2, C25, and 90/10.  Smooth arc, solid fusion, and logical user interfaces.  Chopper machine is well built.  Tough knobs and toggle switches.  Axial spray at 600 WFS and 27 Volts with 90/10 on flat/horizontal plates rocked, but a 3-pass vertical up on 1/4" and 3/8" plates with 90/10 was sick.  Quiet, deep, and excellent wetting characteristics for all three-passes.  98/2 Oxy would prob take spray and pulsed to the next level, but no 98/2 Oxy on site.  Fed consistent and smooth. in nominal mode "5", and in pulsed mode "14".  Played with inductance and several 'smart-modes' integrated into the unit.  In normal mode "5", the unit performs extremely well.  Transitioning to some short-circuit & glob transfer on stainless steel, and axial & pulsed spray on aluminum via tomorrow.  Bullets!  Will let you know about the stainless steel results, as that's your primary material of interest.  Also, will try to burn a few Excaliburs and +5Ps to test drive the SMAW process.   Have not been exposed to Miller's MIG 350P, but would love to run with her one day.  Certain BLUE's setup is also badazz.Last edited by ManoKai; 08-28-2013 at 05:16 PM."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
Reply:I thought both push-pull guns were manufactured by the same company? MK is what I thought I read. Reply:ManokaiPlease do let me know about stainless. As I said its between the 350mp and the 350 pBut no one has answered how good the programming is on the 350p miller? And I thought pulse on pulse was only for aluminum. So unnecessary for stainless steel Seems like most vote towards the red !
Reply:Want to clarify something....Lincolns pulse on pulse is for Aluminum not Stainless. Your getting some good feedback here. I would like to add something that hasn't been brought up yet. It's been a long time since I read all about them when I was trying to choose but my recollection is that the Miller 350P is an inverter machine and the Lincoln is a transformer based machine and weighs about 100 pounds more if that matters to you at all. The user interface is on opposite ends of the world from each other as well. The Miller uses the Digital display with sub menus that are sort of hidden (my expression), while the Lincoln uses the digital display and toggle switches that are all clearly visible and labeled on the front of the machine. It seemed like a lot of choices when I first got it but it really is easy to use and I haven't had to use the manual to access any controls since I first started using it (very intuitive as stated all ready). I now two people with the Miller and several of the controls that it has they don't even know how to access and they have had there machines for several years as well, do you like software access or analog access.I know you are trying to get an answer to a very specific question but It may be hard finding very many people with stainless experience on both machines that can give you a good comparison.Last edited by KGIOR; 08-28-2013 at 08:48 PM.

Reply:@ craigmetalman - hit some 1/8" stainless via 0.035 and tri-mix with the 350PM.  Short-circuit transfer.  Sweet ride.  Will see if can rip some axial transfer and pulsed spray on SS today.  Was having a blast with short-circuit using C25 on 16ga and 10ga mild steel and ran out of time to jam some more stainless.  Need to find more stainless steel coupons....Also broke out the 25ft Python gun and ran spray, pulsed spray, and pulse on pulse spray w/ 100% Ar on 1/2" sections of 6061.  Didn't even wire brush the metal or clean the Al with acetone.  The fillet welds laid down with this beast were beautiful!  Arc smooth and consistent.  Many:many "normal" and "advanced" features for the novice, intermediate, and advanced MIG welder.Last edited by ManoKai; 08-30-2013 at 06:56 AM."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Reply:I've been using my 350MP Lincoln for eight years now. It does a superb job on steel and aluminum. The pulse on pulse is a great feature and the interface is easy to use. The firmware is easy to update when new software comes out for it. Very rugged machine that takes the abuse in a shop environment.
Reply:10-4 Copy that Shov. I haven't done a whole lot of research on the topic as it's pointless from a financial standpoint. So it must be the Cobra and Python line that's done by MK, and the Alumupro is Millers. Originally Posted by shovelonThe Mk guns are inferior to the Miller guns. Reply:When in doubt go blue. We have a few MM350s at school and a lincoln 350. The lincoln has been sitting in a corner for a year untouched.  Nobody wants to use it. That being said the contactors in the MM350 seem to be unreliable.  We have had two break down in just a year. Simple $60 fix but its inconvenient
Reply:@ craigmetalman - closing out my input.  The 350P did well on stainless.  Short circuit, spray, and pulsed spray on 1/8" HRS in positions 1-3F.  Good luck with your purchase."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
Reply:The chopper Lincoln 350mp is much more versatile considering it is a cc/cv machine. It will do dc stick and dc tig along with mig, pulse on pulse mig. The Miller MM350p is a cv machine only.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
