built this quit a few years ago. I also built the hyd.unit. 1979 Briggs & Stratton engine with a hyd. pump out of a forklift. Works for me Attached Images
Reply:Looks very useful, you could power other things like a press, bender, crusher etc....Tim Beeker.
Reply:Good thing you have a hydro unit. It would suck to power that thing with a hand pump enerpac!!!I can't wait to finish my log splitter. I am running four 5" cylinders on it. The idea is high volume, low pressure. Seals last longer and the pump doesn't work so hard. At least that is my working theory. Very cool project. I love logsplitters for some reason. But we have no trees here in Yuma, AZ.hahahahLincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain

Reply:The tarp was my wifes idea, we use that stuff to light fires in the morning. We cut up and burn evey on the tree, no waste.
Reply:That is a slick idea for a log splitter! The company I worked for had lots of portable hydraulic units. All made out of burned up Miller engine drive welders. Generators would burn up, but the diesel engines still had lots of life to them.Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Have you thought about making a hitch on the back of the splitter so you can tow the hydraulic unit along with the splitter all in one trip? It's something you might want to look into if you tow it very far from the storage area, so you don't have to make two trips to use it.

Reply:If I go anywhere I can load the unit in the back of the truck and pull the splitter or I can load both on my 16' trailer. I sure want to thank everyone for their comments. If this post hangs around long enough I'll show the rework I did on the splitter head.
