Reply:I got the same box here near Savannah.  Same symptoms!  I darn near screwed up about a pound of it last weekend!  MY 10 pound box of Excalibur came in on Monday so I have not used any more of the Hobart.  I'll try the higher amps that AK suggested.  However, the Hobart box show 70-100 amps.I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A

Reply:Ah, I got the 3/32 box...same results as above.  I was not happy.  Even went up to 130 or so still the same results.  I was thinking it was a bad batch, too.I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A
Reply:I don't like the Hobarts in the little plastic boxes - and my local hardware store sells Washington Alloy, which I like - $2/lb.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Yep, I did not like the Hobart from a year or so back.  However, I failed to plan well two weeks ago and ran out of the wonderful Excalibur so I had to get something to continue working over last weekend.  Thus the TSC Hobart plastic pack.I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A

Reply:I found Firepower 7014 and 7018 rods at a NAPA auto store, I love these baby's, weld great and easy slag removal. I never liked the Hobart much.Thermal Arc 210 - Tweco 211I - Cutmaster 52

Reply:I ran out of Excalibur 7018's, 3/32" recently while on a project.  Needed to finish what I was working on so I grabbed some Hobart 7018's at TSC.  Welded like cr*p.  Finally got some more Ex's...life is good.
Reply:I thought I'd received a bad lot of Hobart rods also. I donated them to the high school agriculture class to burn up and the experienced instructor couldn't get them to run right either so I felt vindicated. I like the Excalibur and haven't had problems with it but they do reside in a stabilizing oven till just before use.SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....

Reply:Excalibur is the better rod, no question, but I've been using Hobart bought at Tractor supply for over a year now & haven't had any problem. Turn your machine up like suggested, you're running 5/32 a little colder than I run the 1/8th. It's not as pretty as Excalibur, doesn't clean up as well but it also doesn't cost near as much. It's great for farm work.Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
