Does any one have a copy of the Feb. 1987 Hot Rod mag? They had an article "Caddy Hack". They cut up a 70 caddy to show lowering wt. increases acceleration. I have a few gear heads next year and I can use it to focus them when we do motion. If you have a copy can you scan it and send it? PleaseDave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:might try a request on the jalopy journal (aka HAMB)  http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=5tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:Good idea. I never thought about them.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:I had it and can remember it well but i gave it away. They cut parts off until it was a bare frame from  the fire wall back then welded a roll bar on it.
Reply:Don't have any  issues dating that far back but I may have something on the "Bad Seed" chevette they did in the late 90's. Stuffed a stock 500 caddy in a gutted chevette if I recall. Similar weight cutting principle.
Reply:I may have it
Reply:I hope you do ed.I would not have wanted to drive the thing at any kind of speed, they cut the hell out of it.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:Dave    Why don't you contact Peterson Publications directly the people that publish Hot Rod magazine- explain why you want it and bet they'll dig it out for you if it is in their archives and would imagine it is.
Reply:The whole article is scanned here:http://www.cadillacpower.com/forum/v...ic.php?p=28293If you need hard copy there is a guy on ebay with a copy forsale.
Reply:Forhire you are the man. Thanks. I never thought of e-bayDave ReberWadsworth Ohio

Reply:You don't need to chop and hack everything to put a car on a diet...Basic drag race math is that for every 100 LBS you lose you gain 1/10TH in ET....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I agree but the article is interesting. I need to put my skylark on a scale to see what it weights. They cut the caddy to the point I would not want to push it to hard, seems like it would be weak in many areas.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio

Reply:"We put the car on a 400 LB diet and gained 4 tenths.."In drag racing the term "gaining" is actually losing time.If someone came back from a run and said they "Lost 4 tenths" then it's time to find out what's going wrong...They are actually going slower.Watch a few episodes of "Pinks All Out"..When someone gets tossed for going too fast they all say "WOW he gained 2 Tenths from his last 3 runs so he is OUT."That's the way it is....zap!Last edited by zapster; 07-05-2013 at 11:26 AM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Sport Compact Car did an article years ago where they basicaly started off with sensible modifications to get a POS to go faster, and then just kept going overboard, cutting off all "extra" parts with a sawzall.http://www.modified.com/features/020...tance_program/The pictures are amazing, scroll down to the very end for pics. They definitely proved lighter is faster for both static weiht and rotational weight.miller syncrowave 250hobart handler 140home made 400 amp engine driven in progress...
Reply:Thanks jdchmielLooks like another article and line graph assignmnetDave ReberWadsworth Ohio

Reply:An import magazine did something similar to a Nissan sentra as a joke piece. The cut the roof and doors and everything off. It was a lot faster that way too. Made me laugh. Must have been, sigh, 10 years ago now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
