wasn't quite sure where to put this so i put it here in the project section where most mashing happen. we've all mashed a finger nail before and after doing it good today i found this link and did the hot needle into the nail and while not taking the pain totally away it did relive a lot of the pressure use at your own risk   http://rafael.net/2006/03/how-to-tre...ed-finger.html  if your queasy have someone help350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off

Reply:I've not used the hot paper clip method but I have used a very small drill bit in a pin vise several times. The blood does really squirt out and will startle you when you go through. It feels SOOOOO GOOOOD when it quits hurting too!!!  n

Reply:Im just gonna tough it outOf course I don't look busy.....I did it right the first time!
Reply:The hot paper clip always worked for me and you don't have to worry if it's sterile. Reply:I have used both, I perfer the hot paperclip, quicker and painless. the drillbit method pushes too much. You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else. Albert Einstein
Reply:I give the paper clip and propane torch a thumbs up also.  afterwards you dont care if it still hurts some, it is MUCH better...TravisP.S. my cousing suposidly did the drill bit method with a pocket knife, becaues that was all he had, and had a problem with going too far.  I would rather burn myself than impale myself.
Reply:There is usually no nail left to worry about when I get done......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:I use the small drill bit and just turn it with my fingers.  No pushing, let the bit do the work.  Easier to control the depth.
Reply:done it, works well, it's amazing how much of the pain comes from the pressure...........Oh yeah, used small drill bit!HH187Hobart 500i plasma cutterClark 4.5" GrinderDewalt 14" chop saw30 gallom 1.6 hp compressor10 gallon pressure pot sand blasterlots of hand tools
Reply:I use the small drill bit approach but it's a bi!ch when you go too deep, the relief after the inital pain is worth it.....Mike

Reply:I had a buddy who decided to use his drill press with a 1/16th bit.  When he hit his thumb nail, it hurt so bad that he jerked the down feed and put the bit right on through.  Wow, needless to say , next stop- e.r.                                                   best- hkstwn7

Reply:About 30+ years ago when I was in highschool I smashed a nail and went to the ER.  The doc there used the hot wire method and it worked great and that's the one I've used since then.  I figured if it was good enough for the ER and was that easy, it's a winner.
Reply:alcohol on a good 3 corner file works too just keep filing til the blood spurts out then a lil more won/t leave the nail deformed either my 2 cents doc did mine with a drill once hurt like hell this ain/t bad at all
Reply:You can also take a needle and by working slowly you can get under the nail from the end and slowly separate the nail from the finger to form a small tunnel into the pooled blood.  If you take your time and are careful, it doesn't hurt.Miller 250x & Lincoln V205-TSmith Oxy-Prop torch

Reply:I find not hitting your finger in the first place the best.Shox Dr.  Tell Carlos that!   He, Carlos, was our forklift mechanic and he needed someone to hit a punch to drive a pin or something out, so he calls Gary over to help.  Gary swings the hammer, and you guessed it. - smashes Carlos' fingers badly.  Low and behold Carlos is out of work for a week.  He come back and the first week back needs to drive another pin of some sort out. Can you believe he let Gary help after he, Gary volunteered to do so.  Gary commences to smash Carlos's hand again!I don't recall Carlos ever asking for Gary's help after that.  LOL!  Gary always smiled when we mentioned the incident(s).Some kind of Big Blue constant current welding machineAnother smaller yet, Blue machine (it's got wire in it)
Reply:hot needle works great
Reply:I just need my left middle fingernail to even up a bit. I lost it back in early springtime. That incident left a bit more nerve damage for my collection. Attached ImagesCity of L.A. Reply:I don't see the problem here, just use a needle or something and push under the nail. Doesn't hurt any more than cutting out an infected ingrown toenail.. Reply:I use my tungsten. hold an arc for just a couple seconds and its hot enough.  If you have the high frequency on it really sterilizes it. Mac
Reply:I'm the shop Dr at my work, lol. I've burnt several holes in mashed fingernails and pulled two teeth!!!  Same guy on the two teeth, lol. I got the wrong one first attempt, he was the one pointing it out so he wasn't mad!! Channel locks straight out of my nasty work bucket. He packed it full of Copenhagen afterwards!!! Epic.On the fingernails  I usually use a piece of tungsten held by vice grips heated white hot then melt a hole promptly. My best blood squirted a good two feet. He was so scared but immediately after he was amazed and said he'd use me again but not puss around so long next time. I've got a cure for everything from colds, moles, and boils to stopped up a$$holzs!!!

Reply:last time I got my thumb "mashed" it was in a machine that crimps and cuts 1/16" diameter steel wire while trying to clear a jam. It crimps/cuts so fast that I didn't even fully realize what had happened when I heard the machine cycle. pulled my hand out and ran for a clean rag.. Shattered my nail and took a small chunk out of the tip of my thumb. When the bleeding finally slowed I had to pick pieces of my smashed nail out of the raw meat... It was a pretty good time. Everyone at work was pretty grossed out. The tip of my thumb is still partially numb I'm just glad it was the nail because if it was any lower it would of shattered my bone.
Reply:You should never be smashing your fingers, your hands are on the forefront of your consciousness.  It's smashed feet that are the greater problem.  It's easy to move your hand out of the way of something you have dropped, not so much a foot. Then again, put a million foot pounds on a bolt and catch a finger between the end of the wrench closest to the fastener and whatever is hard and that does hurt like hell.
Reply:I just smashed mine back in August, did the paperclip method.  Wound up losing the nail and here it is December and it's almost back to new again.  Gotta love those smashed fingers.---No good deed goes unpunished---
