A couple of weeks ago my new Lathe 1340 arrived. Right now I've uncrated it and stored it in my garage machine shop.I am going to weld a mobile base that can be leveled. I was thinking about making two rectangular outriggers to attach to the separate bases. I was also going to put in a bar to straddle and connect the two outriggers. The two out-rigged bases will have the casters and the leveling legs. The thing weighs around 1600 pounds.I'll level it in the current shop but when I finally build my new one, I'll be able to roll it in and re-level.Any help with the design of the base would be great. As an aside: Before I actually build the base I'm welding running gear for my welder and plasma cutter. I'll begin cutting the stock tomorrow and hopefully have it completed by this weekend (12-19).Any help or suggestions for the lathe mobile base would be appreciated. Anyone ever made a base for a lathe so it may be rolled around the shop and then relevelled:I've included some pics of the beast sort of before (in its modestness = cratedness)and after in it's shameless exhibitionist state (in all of its uncratedness).OK now the beast is revealed in the next post!!!!
Reply:after in it's shameless exhibitionist state (in all of its uncratedness).A transparent allure!UPSKIRT!The ravaged remains! Now I'm really pumped! OK. You can see the two bases. These are the elements that need to be joined to the mobile base. Thanks for any comments/criticisms/helpJonLast edited by psient; 12-15-2009 at 06:36 PM.Reason: additional info
Reply:Looks like you have some work to do......that looks like a pretty nice machine to have at home. I`m a very jealous person. Especially after seeing the bridgeport as well. Just looking at those pictures I kinda got chills down my spine. Have fun! Post pictures of your projects when you get it all set up.
