I just picked up my new mig 210. I have a argon mix bottle so I tried it out with 115v on a 1/8 inch piece of steel. The guide had it set for 7 and wire speed 50. This is the outcome. It seemed like there was a lot of splatter. The gas was set to 20. I only did a few passes but they seemed fat. I tried to pull pool faster but still seemed fat . is this because I am hitting the limit for 115v. I'm getting a cord for 220 tomorrow but I'd like some constructive criticism in the mean time. Thanks everyone.
Reply:Look like the weld is just sitting on top of the metal. Try welding 16 gauge
Reply:Try turning down the wire speed bit by bit, leaving the voltage the same, and using a little manipulation of the puddle - like tracing the leading edge of the puddle as you progress, or circles, etc.Try pushing the puddle instead of pulling it.Hobart Beta-Mig 2511972 Miller AEAD-200LEMiller 250 TwinNorthern Ind. Reply:+Check to be sure you have the polarity set correctly. They come from the factory to run flux core and need the polarity switched. I went crazy trying to figure why my welds were not what they should be.
Reply:Same here! Plugged in my HH210 mvp yesterday for the first time, cranked it to 7/50 per the chart and put down a very tall bead in a t-joint. I slowed the wire speed to 40 and it was better - then I ran out of C-25 :-(Hobart 210 MVP
Reply:Yeah I switched the polarity. Went through everything twice. I did slow to 45 then 40 but I welded so many beads I don't know which are which. They got better but still look almost the same. Is it because its hitting its max at 1/8 inch at 115 v. It seemed to lay half way decent beads near other beads where the metal was already hot. I know it takes practice but I thought I'd be a little better right out of the box.
Reply:[I just did those 2 bottom beads on my mvp 210 with the same settings on 1/8 steel. I wire wheeled the beads.I can do better but the wife was angrily waiting in the car. The lower bead is awful but I was trying to hold in a sneeze .Last edited by kerf; 03-05-2015 at 07:12 PM.
Reply:Well just hooked up the 210 to 220v and what a difference. It welded the 1/8 inch awesome. No spatter even sounded 100% better. I guess the 115v was at its limit with 1/8 inch. Sorry no pictures wife was pissed I was testing it out while the rest of the family was waiting to eat. I think I'll just stick to the 220.
Reply:Oh no, you should be able to weld a trailer or a bridge on 115 |
