I have been trying to decide which welder to buy. The Hobart Handler 190 with spool gun 100 looks like a nice set up. The problem I have is that one site says yes, it can be run on 120 or 220, and other sites say only the 210 will run either voltage. Which is it? What are the advantages of the 210 over the 190 other than the 210 has 20 more amps? I can buy the 190 with spool gun kit on Amazon for $849.00. I didn't find the 210 with spool gun package though. Anyone seen this?
Reply:I'm pretty sure the 210 is the only one Hobart makes that is dual voltage. Extra amperage will make a big difference if you want to do alum. With alum bigger is almost always better since alum is such a good heat sink. More heat allows you more adjustment frequently. The 190 maxed out in both wire and volts will do 1/8" alum. The 210 will give you a bit more room to make adjustments on 1/8" and do say 3/16" alum..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:210MVP. = Multi Voltage Power I think that's what it stands for. I haven't read or heard a single bad thing about that. If I was in the market for a dual voltage mig I would buy the 210MVP hands down! It's also what like $800-$900?!?!Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Reply:^^I knew I was close. ThanksI thought there was just a thread on the 210mvp vs the 211mvp and the hobart can get more wire speed than the miller.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Reply:One of the attractive things I saw about the 190 with spool runner is that you get the spool runner for $100.00 less if you get the combo kit. From what I can tell, if you buy the 210 for $900.00, then you still pay full bore for the Spool runner.... a total of $1,100.00 Quite a jump from $849.00 you can get the 190 for. Decisions decisions.....someone sway me one way or the other.

Reply:I haven't ran the 190 on aluminum, and have very little 210 aluminum experience so I can't comment on this area of machine performance. On steel though, I can point out that the additional top end power makes the 210 the better 1/4" unit. I always seemed to like the 187/190 a little better over the 210 for 3/16" and thinner steel. I am most definitely not disappointed with my 210 MVP though. For some reason out of all the units I have listed in my signature the 210 MVP seems to be my go to unit for most of my projects.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
