I know that I am not the first, nor the last....I went to start my other truck, the battery was dead, and my jumper cables were shot.So I put together these. The pic shows the gauge and manufacture. (Flex-A-Prene #2) The clamps, I got at the local welding supply, Norco, Inc.They are long enough to reach from the Welding Machine Battery to the Truck Battery, too. I also, put on a "little twist" so they will go into an ammo can easier. They work great, and are my best set, ever!I thought that I'd share 'em with ya.-Rhyno Attached Images07 Fowler 200D65 RedFace04 Miller TB 302, 22hpMiller 12RCMiller HF 251-1Lincoln SP135HyperTherm PM 380and a few others... When I 1st saw the title I was thinking, He's made pigtails with tweeco QD's and jumper cable clamps (or better yet used ground clamps) so he can use his 50' leads to reach WAY out and jump start someone. .No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I just got some new leads the other day, and when I was putting the twist conn on. I was thinking about this. make short whips with twist conn, and battery clamps. Then take two 50' leads and hook-up the whips with the crab clamps. awsome jumper cable for low $$daye

Reply:I made a set 30' and I think #1 ga. a long time ago. Still work great but I have to put new clamps on like yours. I have the good Snap-On ones and they suck for side post. I have the copper sticks but usually the weight of the cables pull them off."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:i used vice grips and silver soldered lugs to them lol 2/0 welding cable still gets hot on a 24 volt unit but it works great ......those are some pretty cables ... get them dirty will ya hahaI forgot how to change this.

Reply:Cool, thanks for the update. I got rid of my trucks, so I didn't need the heavy jumpers any more. And I did need a set of leads for my SA200. So, now I have a 30' set of leads for it."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:I hooked up 2/0 cables with the Tweco connectors to my truckbattery with the connectors passed trough the grille. I have seen some guys use a male and a female end on the truck so they cant hook them up wrong, but I used 2 female ends so I can just use ground leads to jump with. I should probably get some dedicated jumpers for this setup, but it will really boost a battery quick.Miller xmt304, Miller S22 p12, Miier Maxstar SD, Miller 252 w 30A, Miller super32p12, Lincoln Ranger 9, Thermal Arc 181I with spoolgun, Hypertherm 10000 ,Smith torches. Reply:Want to keep your jumper cables from going bad?Put them in an ammo can, I made 2 jumper cables out of about 10ft of 2ga and put heavy duty all copper clamps on and they fit perfectly in a 50cal ammo can.I just recently hacked up my really, really long set of jumper cables made out of about 30 feet of 0ga to make a pair of arc welding leads, I just never needed that much jumper cable.old Miller spectrum 625 Lincoln SP-135 T, CO2+0.025 wireMiller model 250 and WP-18V torchCraftsman 100amp AC/DC and WP-17V torchCentury 115-004 HF arc stabilizerHome made 4 transformer spot welderHome made alternator welder

Reply:Nothing else compares to welding lead jumper cables. Got the brilliant idea several years ago, went to LWS for the components. They had a stack of them already made up, 25-30 footers. Everyone had the same idea, so they just mfgd their own. The loggers use them since they need serious amps in subzero weather and cant always get close to the equipment.Hobbyist - At what point is a "hobby" out-of-control?

Reply:This all sounds pretty good. Getting tired of finding the crank handle behind the seat to start my truck. Reply:Yeah I'd never own a short set of cables. I want to say mine are 25' or so. Too many years of having to jump vehicles and equipment you really can't get close to, even though the diesel has batteries on either side of the truck. Sure is nice when someones dead in the parking lot and you can just pull up behind the car in front of them and still reach the vehicle that needs a jump.I used to keep a set coiled up in an old Scuba reg bag I picked up cheap at a flea market..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:For anyone who's going to build a set, I'll mention that there are a few different types of "parrot beak" clamps on the market. The best for high current applications have a copper jaw insert to which the cable terminates directly. |
