Anyone rip off the rubber insulation around air torch to make it cool faster?I did today, seems to work better now that the copper head can easily disappate heat to the air. When the torch got pretty warm after using it off and on for 30 minutes I  even took a damp rag and touched the cooper steamed up and cooled off fairly fast. I have a water cooled torch on a different machine, but like to tinker with stuff.obviously with the copper exposed you have to be careful not to bump it against any metal while welding or it will short out!Maybe I'll wrap some fiberglass around it loosely to prevent accidents/murphy's law from occurring. also didn't realize it but the rubber insulation acted as a gasket around the tungsten holder. At first I thought the gas would come out the wrong way, but given all the threads it would have to escape from it doesn't really matter!

Reply:Yes, but you'd have to be not wearing gloves and be very clumsy for that to occur. Kind of like touching the tungsten while the torch is on if you've ever done that you shouldn't be welding anyways! LOL.

Reply:That's way too easy, Willie. I figured the smoking of the dry ice would also provide some cool effects while welding.I was going to suggest a 1000 amp input to an air cooled torch as an option as well.I'm just trying to be funny, if peeling the rubber off does the trick, works for me Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:This is great stuff fellas! With my newfound information, I may be able to just tig weld in a bucket of water to cool the torch on that yellow chinese tig machine in the back of my shop. Happy days, if I use distilled  water I might be able to dispense of the gas as the air can't get the weld to boot.Aint science great? Reply:Originally Posted by Willie BThey have a new invention called a liquid cooled torch. It is very cool! a pump pushes coolant through a hose, through a hollow void in the collet holder, then back down a tube which contains the torch wire. Ultimately, it goes to a radiator where a fan blows away the heat it picked up. I bought one, I love it!

Reply:So why stop at the torch, strip the hose of the power cable too. Problem is you might have to preheat your alum with all that heat lost. How about welding in a Microwave? You could then put your wife to welding in the kitchen, barefoot, as to get a better grip on her technique.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:Just buy the new WiFi torch with a build in fan it stay cool to the touch all the time.https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpr...4EqsJun_bjErpA
Reply:Hey you could screw you bare powercable into a hammer head. clamp the tungsten onto the front, then after the wife welds the parts in the microwave she can bang them straight.Nope, clamp the tungsten to a golf club. Putt the welded parts out of the microwave and into the anodize tank with the other end of the power cable mounted to it so the current can weld and anodize at the same time. Holy moly with all that money I save I can pay the customer to weld his own parts. Well I may have to sent him the wife cause she is barefoot and has a grip on her skills. Well nuts with all that money that he pays her I can go to school and learn how to weld finally. Reply:You know HF wants to take any path other than though the tungsten. Now the torch head is exposed, you will probably be shocked sooner than later. And I believe Ck torches use brass and not copper so it depends on what torch you have. Reply:awesome ideas folks. I took the cover off my welder today too and it runs much better now. I bet if I took my portable air condition and directed the air it would increase duty cycle too.

Reply:I cut all the insulation off my welding leads all together.  I mean its kind of annoying when working on the table, pan deck, anything remotely conductive, but hey they stay super cool,  well except for when they dead short on damn near everything, but hey you gotta have some trade offs right.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.

Reply:Or a guy could have a nitrous bottle T'ed into the argon line with a solenoid and "purge" the nitrous to cool the torch quick between welds.12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829
Reply:take off your clothes and weld naked, that will keep you cool as well, the flashing from that might blind any co workers though.
Reply:Originally Posted by soutthpawYou might me onto something here,  the fan on the 330 and the Dialarc's are huge,  get an automotive AC condenser or two and attach them to the back of the welder in front of the fan and then just add the pump and you would have a super water cooler for the torch.   condensers (or even radiators) can be had cheap at any junkyard....
