well i finally got a chance to play with my new saw i scored from so cal tools on eBay and i gotta say awesome it cuts clean fast and almost completely burr free i tested it on different square tubing and got a nice square cut all four sides this saw will speed up things considerably over waiting for the band saw and to me blows away a abrasive saw i would think this is a good investment for anyone and if used outside not as much of a fire hazard as a abrasive blade which is good in the desert well just thought i would offer up my 2 cents for anyone considering a new toy350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:Always liked those saws.  What was the price?Home Depot has a Ridged I was considering, but spent the cash on a plasma instead.  The saw they have I don't see in the rack often since it is $200 more that the abrasive one (Du the blade is more!).Glad you like it what brand is it?Me!
Reply:its the porter cable 1410 and i paid $204.00 for the saw and 40 to ship it ive heard about the ridgid saw but never seen them anywhere they probably carry them at the pro stores 350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:This saw looks very interesting. That guy says he is an authorized dealer.Only problem I see is that when I searched for spare blades, they are WELL over $100 each!!!An abrasive chop saw might make more of a mess, but the blades won't break the bank when they wear out. How many cuts do you think that steel blade will make on a "normal" thickness square tube?
Reply:They can be sharpened...Me!
Reply:your blade can be re sharpened and will wear depending on the operator as for extra blade you can check eBay i have found good blades for around 50 bucks half or less than what they go for at home improvement stores350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:Please compare how this bladed saw cuts to how an abrasive saw cuts.Is it slower, faster, the same?Smoother, cleaner, the same?Does it generate heat into the steel?Which will cut a thicker steel? You really got me thinking about this saw. I have one of those vert/horiz. band saws and I hate it. Had it for years and it always is a huge PIA. I was seriously thinking of getting an abrasive for some time now. I just wonder how this guy can sell a brand new saw (his claim) as opposed to a reman. for that price. He also say he is an authorized dealer. Have to check that out too.Last edited by jh225; 08-20-2007 at 10:47 AM.

Reply:Originally Posted by umahunterfor what I've been cutting its been about the same speed it is much smoother and i can handle the steel right after the cut it doesn't heat up bad like a abrasive as for thicker steel i haven't cut anything thick yet so i cant answer that im sure others on here can as for the company that sells them i got my saw from them brand new in the original box from the factory i only bought mine after talking to others on here who bought from them i think its great compared to an abrasive hope that helps
Reply:Originally Posted by KTIDoes the blade look similar to this one:Bullet blade?Their video looks good and I just ordered one for myself :-)
Reply:Will one of those bullet blades work on my HF chop saw?
Reply:i looked at the bullet blades as well and did a lot of searching on them those blades are designed to go on a regular chop saw which spins at a much faster speed than the dry cut saw as stated above as long as you use the right blade for what your cutting you should be cool i have heard quite a bit that SS will trash these blades if you do a lot of stainless you may want to get a blade specifically designed for that as for the bullet blades do a search on them you should come up with some posts to read350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:I may have to get me one of them then... try it out and see how good/bad it does.

Reply:Found out the deal on these machines. The Ebay seller bought up a bunch of them when Porter Cable discontinued making them (2/07). They must have got them for a super low price to sell them for $200.P-C only makes the abrasive one now. The girl at P-C told me that since it was recently discontinued, parts should be available for repairs for some time. She also said as long as the serial number was present and you had a receipt, you are good to go with the warranty on new (not reman) machines which these are supposed to be.I guess I will find out as I just picked one up from the guy's auction.
Reply:Hey Guys,I see others are discovering the rugged and very reasonably priced Porter-Cable Dry Cut Saws. Just to enlighten you a bit regarding the reliability of the P-C, I have (2) at work that are 14 years old and the only problem one of them gave was the coil return spring breaking. While I was in the midst of a huge job and couldn't wait for a new spring, I welded the broken end with our MIG by wrapping the coil with a wet cloth. I ordered (2) new ones just in case, and the original I welded is still in use today. The (2) spares are in my tool cabinet. I have cut 1.5" X 1" solid at times, and the saw cuts perfectly. The heaviest metal I have cut at work has been 3" X 3" X 3/8"wall sq. tube and is cut corner-to corner for ease and blade life. The pressure to which you apply to the saw blade will determine the life of the blades. A steady downward pressure is all that is needed, and of course, a freshly sharpened blade makes a difference with solid stock. With all the sq. & rd. tubing we cut, we get 600-800 cuts per sharpening. The blades can last thru at least 6 sharpenings if done by a person who knows the proper procedure to sharpen. We have a superb gent who does a perfect re-sharpen on our blades. I am partial to the 14" 72T Freud Diablo ferrous blades for the P-C saw and the 10" 80T Freud non-ferrous(AL) blades for my table saw. These blades can be purchased on E-Bay quite reasonably, as I recently got (4) of the 14" Diablo on a multiple item bid for $160 incl. s/h. You will find the 72T blades will cut solid better than the 100T. The 100T would be ok for tubing and thin(<.187) strap material, but would not have the life of the 72T. The dry cut saw is much more efficient, cooler, and better blade life than an abrasive saw IMHO. I also highly recommend the Porter Cable saw as I did with umahunter thru pm prior to his purchase. He got his from the same dealer I got mine---socal tools. I really hope Porter Cable doesn't discontinue this saw indefinitely. Maybe if we can get enough metal workers/welders to buy one, they will re-intro the unit. Anyway, I hope those of you considering a dry cut saw will look at the P-C and I know you would not be disappointed......DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Still it just looks wrong cutting steal with a carbide blade... LOLMe!
Reply:All I can say is WOW!My saw just got delivered so of course I had to open it up, check for damage, give it a test drive, etc.Went through a 1/4"x3" piece of O-1 Tool steel like it was butter. If anyone knows how hard O-1 is to cut, you will be very impressed with the saw.

Reply:i buy these: Freud Diablo Steel Demon 14x72T Ferrous Metal Blades 4 (Ebay)  Item number: 250160131572 They always have them on e bay. You can usually get them for around 120 for 4.The Diablo blades are nice, the important thing is max RPM of 1800... So DON'T use them in your abrasive chop saw!Me!
Reply:Anyone want the blade that comes with these machines?  I just got one for cutting aluminum, so I need a different blade.  This one is new, never used and I'll sell it for $25 off retail.    I think that means $100 ( I see them on Amazon for $125) but if that's not competitive, let me know.  [email protected].   Credit card, paypal, check accepted.  Will ship by UPS or USPS. Here's the blade on Amazon marketplace:http://tinyurl.com/2zlc63
Reply:Until I stumbled on this thread I didn't know such a saw existed. All I had ever seen was the big, expensive cold saws that I could never afford. I ordered mine and had it within a week. Tried it out on a piece of 1 1/2" round stock I had laying around and it cut a perfect 1/8" slice off the end and left a machined finish. It cuts like butter. Why did I have to suffer so long with the noisy, slow, inaccurate, messy abrasive saw? At $199 + $40 to ship why would anyone buy an abrasive saw? I could have probably paid for the difference with all the abrasive discs I have bought over the years. If you are considering buying one of these, don't even think twice, just do it!JimCut an MGB and widened 11" C4 Corvette suspension and LT1 Chevrolet power & 6 spd. Reply:I looked all over Ebay and can't find these saws, can you help me out with a URL?John
Reply:haaa.....this thread is 2 years old....that's why you can't find this saw.Milwaukee sells a nice dry cut saw......for around $300.I have a "masterhand" dry cut saw that I got at Tractor Supply. they were closing them out and got it for $50!!!!  It is the best $50 I've ever spent.  it eats through steel, makes beautifully clean cuts, is fast, and doesn't heat up the material.  I have cut 1/4" plate with it, 3/16" wall 4"x4" square tube....it's a monster!  oh yeah.....very few sparks too!
Reply:here you can see a example of the nice clean cut a dry cut saw leaves.  this piece was cut over a month ago.....so it has developed some scale on it since it was cut, but I had this piece laying around....so I just took this picture.  This sample is 1/4" x 1.5" steel plate.
