I made this for a Dodge Cummings truck puller. He pulls it in the street class although he never drives it always hauled. Gave him many options to choose from for correct height. The rules only gave a height and hook ring opening diameter and must be 1 inch thick. 2x2 square shaft all gussets are 1/2 flat. All was ved and givin  three passes with 7018. Pulled with it several times and competition proven. PS Bolts are just for mock up draw pins are used in there place. Reply:I've never really paid attention but always figured 2x2 square stock was to "square" of a corner to fit in a receiver, figured it would need the corner rounded off like 2x2 tubing.Bruce
Reply:I love "Cummings" diesels , Lmao!

Reply:A lot of receivers were made with 2.53 tubing. It was widely available back when I was making hitches. Haven't looked lately. It had just enough clearance.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:Seems like it would pull the rear down and raise the front of the truck causing it to lose front traction. The "cheater stock" gas truck we built had the whole hitch and frame dedicated so it would pull as level as possible.Leveraging the hitch that much might result in hop.
Reply:Tigguy, The truck has frame stops that bolt to the frame and are adjustable that rest on top of the rear axle. It also has sled stops that bolt to the frame to prevent the sled from hitting the truck.Miller 250DX HTP 221 DV AC/DCHenrob O-A Miller 180 MigMiller 150 Inverter   Hobart 10,000 Welder-Generator   Have a good day!!!
Reply:OK on the stops. Didn't know what is allowed in diesel. We weren't allowed stops, so most of us ran between 10 and 15 leaves in the rear springs.Front frame was filled with lead type from a buddy's old print shop and the axle was chained to limit travel.Still was running the Dana 60 rear when a slight hop took out the ring and pinion, u-joint and yoke which grenaded and the pieces went through the left-rear tire causing it to come off the rim. A real crowd pleaser!!!
Reply:Don't know why it's raised, flip it so your pulling point is down low, either close to or below the axle, if you're below it will literally push the front axle down.Bruce
Reply:if it is 2wd you want the weight to pull down on the rear some to add more traction to the rear wheels.Lincoln 225 ac (my first machine)farmhand 115vac 70amp mig/fc toymiller aead 200le (my main machine)

Reply:Yes, being that the hitch height is set, everything else is irrelevant in a rigid mount.  The only thing that really matters is the relationship of the hitch mount (assuming the hitch allows flex) and the application point of power (tire to surface), along with leverage of COG relative to that contact patch keeping the front down.  Front drive complicates things a bit, and there are torque/acceleration reactions, but most of that is relatively small in comparison.  The relationship to the axle (to the hitch) really doesn't make much difference here, though getting the pivot of the hitch lower and closer to the contact patch (if allowed) would change things considerably.  The hitch configuration itself could look like a pretzel (or a pile of silly string) and as long as it is rigid it wouldn't make a difference.  Nice looking hitch.Last edited by baddog; 12-21-2013 at 12:30 AM.
