I've been working on a project for a while to build my own skid steer quick attach adapter for a John Deere 260 loader.  Sorry, I don't have any pics right now but I was wondering if any of the rest of you had build one?  I bought the pins and small internal guts from the New Holland Dealer and modeled my latch boxes off of a New Holland LS170.  Building the handles took quite a bit of time and I probably should have just ponyed up the money ($70 each) and bought those as well.Miller 250x & Lincoln V205-TSmith Oxy-Prop torch

Reply:Cd19 knows what im working on.  Its the complicated side of the setup.  Mondo, you need to work on your fit up as cd19 mentioned, that wont hold up
Reply:Personally I'd look around for one that's already made and make it fit your application.  We bought a telehandler and it's got a skidsteer quicktach plate on it, looks like it would be fairly simple to adapt it to another loader.  C section up top wraps around a pipe, bottom has a couple pins.  I also don't mess around with mounts for buckets, I just adapted a 8' bucket today for the quicktach, we have the plates for welding on that another welding shop sells, they laser, bend, and have the jigs for welding them, easier than messing around trying to make it myself.

Reply:I've looked at Hayspear.com's stuff, and actually that is where I got some of my inspiration from but he didn't have exatly what  I was looking for and it it was goign to cost about $900 by the time you pay for shipping....plus I just kinda wanted to see if I could make one.  I do not have a lathe or a mill.  This is being built with the few purchased pieces shown and the rest is made with a portaband, jig saw, drill press and angle and die grinders.I thought that I had some pictures of the inside of the latch box but those must not have saved.  The pin will travel in a piece of 1.25 ID x 1.75 OD DOM tubing.  I had to use an adjustable reamer to clearance it a bit for the pin to slide freely in it.Last edited by Chuck; 10-11-2013 at 08:38 AM.Miller 250x & Lincoln V205-TSmith Oxy-Prop torch
Reply:Mondo, I can see your problem now.  You welded the underside of the top piece didn't you?   Yeah, you need that to be a sharp 45 degree corner.Miller 250x & Lincoln V205-TSmith Oxy-Prop torch
Reply:on washburns aka hayspear's the pins with the taper seem to have the taper cut in a bandsaw.  I assume they have a jig to get the angle sharp enough.  I think he sells a pair of plain latch boxes for $400 that you can weld onto anything.  So far yours looks pretty good though.

Reply:Originally Posted by cd19I think he is looking for the tractor half of the mount.   Maybe not what you want to hear but I'm going to tell you and save you some damage hopefully.  In your second picture, the top flat bar on your forks that goes at an angle down over the quick attach is not at the same angle as the quick attach, that is a huge problem.  Without the quick attach being able to get as deep into the V as it can it is putting extra stress on the flat bar and the tip of the quick attach.  Eventually this means excessive wear and possible failure at with a load on.  I'm happy for you if it's working but you need to know what I told you.  I've built and repaired enough skid steer attachments to see what fails and that is a bad spot even on properly built ones.

Reply:Chuck, I like the progress your making. I'm interested to see the finished product. Mondo, I like your fork attachment. I've made some skid steer stuff. In the published standard (I'll have to dig up the PDF) it calls for the upper pocket to be made from a folded piece... imagine something like 135 degree angle iron. Not having a large press I've done that same as you did. I normally lay an angle iron across the part and tack the lower and if I can get to the back side I tack it there with a couple light tacks. I then lay my flat bar on angle and tack it in place. I tack it to the implement and put a series of light tacks to the angle iron. I then complete the welds across the top. Once it cools I grind off my tacks and pull the angle iron. I've been amazed the abuse the hay fork has received and it still is holding strong. Reply:I made a little more progress on this.  I've been working on the brackets.  I tacked 4 pieces of 1/2 x 5 together and drilled the holes through all of them at the same time so I'd have good alignment.  I then cut out they shape of them while they were still welded together as a 2" thick chunk of steel.  Those of you with bandsaws are probably like "Big deal", but I don't have one... I did this with a portaband. Attached ImagesMiller 250x & Lincoln V205-TSmith Oxy-Prop torch
Reply:Chuck, This is awesome.  I need to do the same thing to adapt an older skid steer (mustang) to quickattach.  What are you planning to do for pin bosses?  I'll be following along....

Reply:Looks factory. Good job. I'd paint the handles JD yellow instead of black... so they match the wheels.
Reply:That looks really nice. I have a loader I wanted to put skid steer attachments on. I like the pattern you used . Thanks for sharing.
Reply:I'll be watching this one, plan to build a quick attach for a JD 200CX FEL.
Reply:It looks good chuck.  One thing I would caution you about is you might have more tractor than you have attachment adapter.  Awhile back I was looking at tractors and if I recall correctly the capacity on the factory loaders were limited considerably when they had the skid steer adapter. It sure makes things easier when changing attachments.  Plus it gives you an unlimited source of options for doing work.life is good

I know I'll have to sorta pick and choose what I use on it, but I've got lots of skidsteer attachments.  Some are up to the task and some are not.

Reply:I think it is an AWESOME job done by a Guy who is resourceful enough to use the basic power tools he has available!
Reply:Originally Posted by cd19No farm tractor with the correct sized loader is going to break it's front axle just doing a dead lift of it's full capacity. Not saying you couldn't break a spindle on a 2wd by hitting a hole but you can do that without a loader even.  Would take some trying to break most 4wd axle housings.
Reply:Every tractor we have has been modified to work over factory specs as soon as the warranty ran out. The fuel pumps are all turned up to get a little more HP, but have never had the need to modify hydro reliefs. I would suspect you would need to be working well beyond the ability of the tractor if you are tinkering with the reliefs. I would think you would damage the pump before the tractor frame.Lincoln Precision Tig 185Lincoln Power Mig 256Hypertherm PM 45Everlast 140STSmith O/A
