Need help on how to cap downhill pipe with 5/32 7010, I can get the top looking good but have trouble on the sides. I have used 4 different machines, have the same results. On the top I do a oval shapes then tighten it up to circles at about 1:30 then edge of bevel on the side. This is 5g position 3/8 wall pipe, I can run stringers but can't get the single bead cap. Reply:You have to run it cold and just weave side to side. You know how to make the bottom look like the top, don't you? Phuk up the top!
Reply:Never heard of doing circles on downhill pipe welds. I think you just drag the rod and possibly weave side to side to make the cap a little wider. Pipeliners run hot. Why not use 2 fast stringers?Last edited by Welder Dave; 03-15-2015 at 09:10 PM.
Reply:It helps a lot if your filler pass fills completely before you cap. The bevel should be almost full before you cap it, with just enough of the bevels left on the sides so you can see where your going as you cap. I like it especially full on the sides and bottom. If it is not so full on the top that's OK since it is easy to fill on the top as you cap.The worst thing I can think of happening is if everything I ever welded instantly became UNWELDED
