ok im new to welding, maybe a year or so. i do pretty well for a beginner but i guess i thought i was better than i thought. cause i started a motorcycle gas tank project and completely screwed it up. basically no matter what i did i could not stop burning through the tank. i ended up completely trashing this tank. im using .30 wire lowest setting on my hobart 190. and tried every possible wire speed setting. but nothing worked. i really need some help. i have things i want to do on tanks but cant cause i suck. thanks

Reply:I will suggest smaller wire(.024),tig or OA torch and maybe brazing w/ OA torch.                      MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:What thickness is the tank ? Hobart specs sheet min thickness is 24 gauge for that machine. However your skill level needs to be factored in. Sounds like you gotta buy another machine for tig or one for tig and stick. Reply:TIG is the ultimate answer, but not the only one.MIG, using a spot welding style will produce acceptable results if you are careful.  The trick is sealing it all up.  As the spot welds become more dense, the metal will be able to take more heat.  You will have to blend in the old, cold spot welds, with your new.  Search the internet for videos on autobody repair. One other possibility is to tack the whole thing together and then give it to someone that already has a TIG.   It might cost you a few bucksCon Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
