sa 250 in a 2000 chevy 3500

im wanting to know if anyone out there has ever put an sa 250 sideways, the machine measures 67" and the flanges on the truck measure 63.5" inside to insideI could shorten up the machine a bit but I think I would still have to knock some off the the truck bed flanges.. any suggestion would be appreciated.

Reply:Consider mounting it length wise with the truck rather than sideways, or build a welding bed to replace the factory bed.
Reply:you have to cut the flanges of the bed, the sa 250 is 67" and a rectangle, the inside of the flanges measure 63.5"time is an issue for me or I would build a bed, my 99 chevy with a 300 rediarc has to go to the doctors asap, that's why im looking at getting it done as quick as possible... I welded with an old boy about 15 years ago had damn near the identical rig and sa 250 sideways, but I don't have his # haven't talked with him in years...

Reply:im up in Susquehanna pa...I thought of shortening it up, but the best I can get is exactly what the inside of the bed rails measure.. that's 63.5" that's about what the end of that armature to the radiator measures so im probably just gonna whack some out of the bed rails..

Reply:Don't Cut the Body! You can shorten the machine to fit between the bed rails. Takes a full day but comes out sweet. I've done 4 myself and just finished one for a friend. The machine runs fine with no cooling issues. The only problem is checking the oil thru the rear sliding window. Reply:Trucks are a tool - tools get modified as needed Cut it up is my vote. I've seen a couple come through here that had big cuts in the bed. They were welded up on the cut edges and looked fine.
