Hi all,Been welding up small brackets and tubes with my new Tig set over at the workshop, Only real problem was to hold the part in the correct place whilst welding, I used magnets and tried wedging  with bits of metal etc.. Not very successful but passable, then i had a thought..... How about one of those Laboratory Clamp Stands that we used to use at school? I'd have to remove the rubber from the clamp and any rubber from the base so that it would earth, or even attach the earth to the work piece itself? But for the sake of £16.95 ($25) i think it might be just what i'm looking for and if i get a pair, then i can just about do any combination of angles and positions I need.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Laboratory...item3cf3586d20Does anyone use anything like this, for holding their work whilst tigging ?

Reply:The ones like that I have seen, the clamp part is made from zinc alloy, so you'd have to be careful with heat.I have a clamp fixture with 2 vise-grip type clamps attached to articulated bases which can hold 2 pieces at just about any angle. I don't use it very often but it sometimes comes in handy.Another idea I heard about for holding very irregular parts, is a grounded metal bowl filled with Wheelabrator shot (square-cornered steel shot for shot-blasting). It doesn't really clamp the parts but would be useful for tacking.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
