I have a SAE Pipeliner from the 70's on a trailer that I came across and thought it would be nice to have a mobile welder, but I just don't use it. It has spent time outside and is rusty with chipped paint ect. It runs and welds great and I am considering selling it. The question is to sell it, should I prime and paint the outside, paint both the outside and engine, paint the outside and just clean the engine or just leave as is? What kind of price range is fair? Thanks for the input.Last edited by jmjones; 03-16-2015 at 03:54 PM.

Reply:just a little north of me...Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:If I were buying it I would like it just the way it is. A old friend told me once a coat of paint covers a multitude of sins.
Reply:If the engine and generator don't look too bad, just paint the hood and doors. Then it looks good and the buyer can still see the original workings underneath.
Reply:I guess you have to ask if the cost of the paint and your time will be recouped at the time of sale. Personally I don't pay for paint when I buy the machine. I figure it comes standard with the machine and new paint won't let me bill or make any more money. I have to laugh a little when I see guys show up with a $700.00 stainless hood on a sa200, but hey, it's not my money. As for the price. Is it gas or diesel? Hours? All the tin there? AC or DC auxiliary power? Remote or other accessories? Location is critical also. Good luck with the sale.Last edited by gundog77; 03-16-2015 at 10:08 PM.
Reply:A restored short hood or red face SA 200 can be worth several thousand dollars. Older SAE's were DC outlets for tools.Last edited by Welder Dave; 03-16-2015 at 10:30 PM.
Reply:Are the 200's more valuable than 300's, are most of these purchased for use or as a collectible or something?

Good luck with the sale.It is Gas, about 2k hours, not sure what "all the tin there" means, DC outlet for a grinder or similar sized tool and has 40ft leads and no other accessories.
Reply:"All the tin" means all the sheet metal is there and intact. This would include the top cover, doors and any other miscellaneous sheet metal that would be attached to the machine.Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:Yes all the tin is here. |
