I have a small project which is basically trying to put a float arm on a gas tank sending unit. I made the mistake of buying what I thought to be just plain mild steel rod in 3/32" diameter to make a float arm out of. What I actually ended up learning was this was music wire. After trying to MIG weld and spot weld it, the metal gets real brittle and breaks apart at the joint. I've since found out music wire is not very good at all for welding due to high carbon content. It is great for bending because it is basically spring steel. My question is, can this stuff perhaps be soldered or brazed? Obviously this isn't a structural thing, but it needs to hold up to gasoline moving around. Thanks.

Reply:Music wire is actually spring steel so soldering... preferably silver soldering is the way to go........zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home. |
