Picked up for $150 Shout out to S&K Steel of Sacramento Ca.!!!!It looks rusty but trusty. The top is bolted down so it's removable....thinking i can upgrade to Drilled slats at a later date? Excited to get this table at such a bargain and had to share it. Six pack and my wire brush should make it look quite bit better...or what are yall's thoughts? Reply:Looks ok. Nothing special. What's are the measurements?
Reply:Looks like a good start. If you want it pretty, I would think having it sandblasted would be prudent. Reply:Well it's 3/16 plate on both tops....i want to upgrade that of course. These are ideas i'd like to hear....I saw a table build with the vise holder on the bottom at a 45` angle that i am going to incorporate for sure. Yeah nothing special, but now it's mine and free to modify. 33" Wide 56" LongLarger top is 38"/33" 40" TallSmall top is 18"/33" 30" TallI'm 6'2" so it feels good to me.Lincoln PowerMig 200AHP 200x 3rd Gen.Miller 211 AASMiller Digital Elite "POWMIA"Victor Oxy SetLotos ltp5000d

Reply:Any place that has a giant press brake as their business sign is OK in my book! Nice table. For where you're at, price sounds good to me. Naval jelly, a scrub pad and a garden hose will get the rust off it too. Just don't do it in your driveway if it's one that has to look pretty I cut several square holes in the corners of mine for trailer hitch receiver type stuff. I have vises, anvils, etc I can drop in and take out at will. You may find in the future, you don't always want a vise bolted directly to your table. You may need the entire top for something.Look at the welding table threads here. Lots of great ideas.Welcome to the hobby that spends all your money for you! Reply:Yeah.....already busted the rust on top.....then started on the whole damn thing lol....it's cleaning up well.I'll be off to grab some steel to add/modify this weekend.Lincoln PowerMig 200AHP 200x 3rd Gen.Miller 211 AASMiller Digital Elite "POWMIA"Victor Oxy SetLotos ltp5000d
Reply:Just a thought but maybe using some expanded metal for the tabletop on the short side?
Reply:Nice score that is a good start to a great table.
Reply:Take it outside and spray it down with muriatic acid then hose it off and dry it before it flash rusts again. No more rust.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:I'm almost done wire brushing the hell out of it. I had already got some naval jelly to finish it up. Hopefully it works well. I didn't know i could just get a gallon of muriatic acid. I should do do that. I heard there are peeps using concrete strippers that have a decent content of muriatic acid? How would you advise containing rusty acid mess on cement.....just lots of water or?Last edited by FitnFused; 03-17-2015 at 10:36 AM.Lincoln PowerMig 200AHP 200x 3rd Gen.Miller 211 AASMiller Digital Elite "POWMIA"Victor Oxy SetLotos ltp5000d
Reply:Thanks ratdog it should be a cool table when done. Weldontopofslag- Yeah definatley gonna incorporate some expanded steel. I grabbed the top box of a cheaper craftsman roll around i had just taking up space. Bottom is gonna be used in Tig cart. Top is going to be used in Weld Table. Possibly the other way around. I was thinking of making a spot for this small compressor i wasn't using but figured it would just get melted and screwed up.Lincoln PowerMig 200AHP 200x 3rd Gen.Miller 211 AASMiller Digital Elite "POWMIA"Victor Oxy SetLotos ltp5000d

Reply:Yeah i suppose i'm being a cheap ***.That and I'm a gluten for punishment.I was contemplating taking it for blasting but figured it would amount to some ridiculous billso i figured i'd bust the rust and spend the money on more tools. lolLincoln PowerMig 200AHP 200x 3rd Gen.Miller 211 AASMiller Digital Elite "POWMIA"Victor Oxy SetLotos ltp5000d

Reply:Adding a drawer would save anything underneath from getting melted I bet and give you some additional space for tools or consumables maybe.

Reply:For acid, your cheapest route is probably toilet bowl cleaner like "The Works" which is muriatic (hydrochloric) acid. Before you finish, be sure to hose all the acid off, then put an alkaline/basic chemical (like ammonia or lye/oven cleaner) on it to neutralize the acid remaining in the pits in the metal, or it will rust again before your eyes, then hose it off again, dry it, and coat it with oil or paint.
Reply:Nice...i got a gallon of muriatic and i'll use the alkaline base for the pits then Thanks!!! Reply:NEVER leave aluminum to ground itself from the table!!!!All it does is transfer the metal from the table to your piece.Ground the part not the table with aluminum. One bad ground for a split second and you have what I call " Spuckles" now in your material and if you need to machine over it...it will raise hell with your nice sharp tooling....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Alright....this sound's good. Plenty of water and just the muriatic acid. Makes sense and I've grown to enjoy the smell of WD40 so i'm def ok with that... THANKS!!!! Originally Posted by MikeGyverYou suggesting that he use as strong of an alkali as the acid, after rinsing off the acid?then what, use the acid again to neutralize the extremely strong alkali? then just keep going back and forth forever..?look, just do this...spray it down with a spray bottle of muriatic acid.... let it sit for a few minutes until it stop working, then rinse and repeat of necessary. When you're done just rinse it off while lightly scrubbing with a rag. You can use a something mild like baking soda, although you'll find it's not necessary. Now here's the important part... it's going to immediately flash rust if you just leave it to dry. This is not from residual acid (the acid removes rust, have we forgotten what step one did already?) The reason it rusts is because the steel is now clean on a molecular level; it IS going to react with oxygen in the air or water. So quickly dry it with a dry rag and or compressed air then lightly oil it with wd-40 or something to put down a barrier layer. You can lightly scrub off any excess oil until its dry and it still wont rust in the shop.I have actually done this exact process many times and it works as advertised. It didn't even hurt my driveway because i kept the hose going and it all just washed down the gutter. Be careful as the acid can etch concrete brighter if it sits at all (that's what its sold for after all)
Reply:Be careful with that stuff and take the precautions on the bottle. Just opening that bottle indoors will rust things sitting on your shelves. It may attack rust, but it is still a very strong acid and needs to be treated with care.250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes |
